Who listens to music while playing DK? What genre?

Just curious who all listens to music while playing Donkey Kong?  I have my turntables set up next to my machine so I'm constantly trying to figure out what puts me in the zone.  So far its classical, some jazz and a weird bongo hip hop cover album.

I mostly listen to documentaries and audio books and stuff in my headphones. If I'm streaming I'll (usually) keep it muted, unless it's something people might wanna hear, like the KoK commentary track the other night. Music not so often.

I try to avoid sound on DK if possible. I much prefer the game to be silent. The only reason the volume isn't off completely on my machine is because I want game audio on the recordings.

If I'm listening to an album or compilation by a single artist, it's typically one of these:

• Grateful Dead
• Steely Dan
• Pink Floyd
• Little Feat
• Eric Clapton
• Stevie Ray Vaughan
• Allman Brothers

Another common option is to stream a Grateful Dead or Furthur show from the Internet Archive (a great online resource, for those not familiar with it).

During a serious game, I'd rather have no music at all.  I prefer to minimize the risk of a barrel death where the music overshadows the game sounds, and I poorly anticipate the bottom hammer running out.

i usually just stick my whole collection on shuffle, but i think dance/techo type stuff is the best music for playing DK to, seems to keep you on your toes...

I also like to play to the Grateful Dead Channel on Sirius and any golden age rap (tribe called quest, digable planets, beastie boys, etc).

I've never understood how you folk are able to listen to music while playing video games. Which is a little ironic, since my favorite game is a rhythm game, but in that game, you actually need the music to play it properly! When I play games like Donkey Kong with music, I just die a lot.

Depends - I listen to a lot of different music. 60's - now. I love the 80's probably most of all but listen to the full gamut. Just depends on the mood im in. Last night it was "Music for the Masses" by Depeche Mode in my cd player but then the other night it was Classic Rock on the radio. Sometimes its Pandora and sometimes I just turn it all off and focus on the game.

Lately I do think I play a little better with some background music and trying to just be a little loose playing. If I think too hard I start to tighten up once I get to level 12 or so. :/
