Battle of the Arcades 4 - Game suggestions for 2015

As a participant for GGA last year, I am very excited to hear about the potential for BOTA in August.

I am the one guy on the GGA team who is focused solely on the classics, but there is a desire for the other team members to expand the tournament to include a shmup and a fighter and I definitely support that.

Based on recent games acquired by the Ghost and the feedback in this forum, these are the games I would like to see in the tourney:

Mr. Do (I dig the music)
Tutankham (Stern title)
Zoo Keeper (Because it is the best arcade game ever made)
Timber (Bally/Midway title)
Moon Patrol (Williams title)
R-Type (Shmup game)
Turbo (Driving game)
Popeye or Mario Bros (Nintendo title)
Ms Pac Man Turbo (Pac Man game)
Qix (Because it is awesome and frustrating at the same time)
Tempest (Atari game, start at Level 9)
... and a fighting game. Maybe dip our toes in the water with Karate Champ (not sure what is most sensible or available)

Yes, there are three games in the list with maintenance issues (ZK, Tempest, Qix) but I am confident that our host, Doc Mack, is up for the challenge. It couldn't be any worse than Pole Position last year!

I just pushed out an update to the BOTA website that makes the style a bit cleaner/modern and makes it work on mobile devices.

This isn't exciting or important but I just wanted to remind the people involved that I don't think we have an official date yet for the 2015 edition of the biggest CAG event of the year.  If BOTA doesn't happen then  wins.  Don't let  win.

I LOVE IT, johnbart! It must happen... I am looking forward to it with great anticipation! I'll keep following up with Doc at Galloping Ghost. I see Zoo Keeper in a Kencade photo... GGA has that game now as well.

So. Cal site has ZK as well. My potential team has been bugging for a date. They can't commit without a date. It's killing me! I would hate to lose any of them.

Last I spoke to Ken he was no longer interested in participating.   If Ken isn't participating, it takes the fun out of trying to dethrone Kencade finally.   That's where we're at.

Are there any fighting games all three places would even have? I'm not a fan of Karate Champ, and JW is about the only other person I can think of who would want it. Maybe Street Fighter or something like that? I'm sure there is a shmup we can all find and get up somehow, but that's also not my area. I may go a little later into the 80s and 90s than Tim, but I would argue that me, Ducs, and JW are pretty much classics-only players, too.


- Timber is marathonable and should not be included IMO
- I can get on board with Qix, Tut, Mr Do!, Moon Patrol, and RType. Good suggestions.
- ZK is 
- I hate Tempest, but we'll see what other guys say.
- Turbo is crappy as heck and annoys me, but it's still a kind of fun game that would be good for this.
- No Mario Bros, please. So clunky.
- Hell no Popeye.
- Nobody mentioned it, but no f*%$ng BurgerTime.

The fighters and schmups are tough, I agree... this is why R-Type and Karate Champ seemed sensible because they are the most common... I suck at these but I also know that the GGA team would like to see an expansion of our horizons.

I agree... NO Burgertime even though I am actually good at that stupid game!

Someone really likes APB... Does this person owns the actual game or something?? 

Good thought on 720 now that GGA has it... they also have also acquired Phoenix, Circus Charlie, Road Runner, The Pit, Lunar Lander, and Congo Bongo since I posted my original suggestions... but please no Lunar Lander!!
