I thought he was Middle Eastern, hence the "Iron Sheik".  He is neither!

Edit: Now looking at the list there at least seems to be a decent Asian representation.  Ben Mazowita, Hank Chien, and Jimmy Linderman are all in the top 27.

I only met Ben once but I think he is Caucasian.  A quick google shows the Mazowita's came from Australia.

I forgot about Jimmy.  Although he only spent a few months playing DK and then moved on.

I quickly compared our main HSL with your "rebuilt" Top 20.  Your list alerted me to an incorrect score (on our end) for Vincent.  I have since made the correction (from 1,135,600 to 1,135,900).  The other differences are highlighted below:

In the case of Shaun Boyd, it may be a "date achieved" vs. "date verified" issue.  Perhaps Shaun can confirm.

Kyle Goewert's entry is a separate submission altogether ("verified" vs. "pending").

The magic number is 2,700! 

The other differences are highlighted below:

- Dean: yes, it should be 10/4 and not 10/3. Timezone here actually made a difference, since when I was watching Dean achieve this score it was before midnight in California, but after midnight in Rhode Island. Of course, local time where the score was achieved is what counts, so it's 10/4.

- Vincent: this was most definitely Friday, January 11th, because I wasn't home that day and remember specifically how mad I was that I had to miss the live stream and had to watch the replay, and I wouldn't have missed it on a Saturday!

- Dave: pure typo. 2013 and not 2012, obviously.

- Corey: he got the 1,019 on Thursday night, 11/14. I remember thinking how funny it was that a wildcard got such a huge score before the actual competition had started. 11/17 was KO3 Day 2 (if you consider Friday "Day 0") and Corey's best for the tourney was 893,300.

- Kyle: I know nothing about this 1,018 game. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is video of this anywhere, TG never verified it, and Kyle didn't personally submit it to DKF, it was just passed on by word of mouth (I think). So it's sort of a limbo score, and honestly, I'm not sure how it should be treated. I don't doubt that Kyle did it, but it's tricky, so I just gave the officially verified score the nod, especially because he's in 19th place with either one. I suppose this will become an issue if and when somebody gets a score between 1,012,800 and 1,018,700

The magic number is 2,700! 

I know, that's how I immediately recognized your score as the correct one.  An examination of the audit trail reveals that we (Jeremy and I) inherited that value when we assumed ownership of the HSL.  I'm surprised it only took me 3 months to spot the error.   

I've also modified the dates for Vincent (01/11/2013), Shaun (05/21/2012), and Corey (11/14/2013).

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do about Kyle's score either.  I'm not expecting "TG (Pending)" to be magically transformed into "TG (Verified)" anytime soon.  I believe the score, but I'd like something more substantial than a series of Facebook messages (or however it was announced).  A short video of the final 1-2 levels would do the trick (and, preferably, a restart to demonstrate the "3+1 lives" setting).  Otherwise, we risk setting a bad precedent.

I'll leave the score as is for now.

The interesting thing about that article, being 2003 and Seattle, is why did it still reference Billy Mitchell as the score to beat, even with it being known that the score was already beat by a "New York Player"? My answer to my own question would be when they talked to RTM, he basically must have went on and on about Billy Mitchell's history with the score that the writer found it better to focus on Billy's score other than Tim's.

Yeah. I've made this argument before, but was being downplayed long before the filmmakers ever got involved.

It's just like this interview from 2004 (before the movie was even an idea). It's Billy and Steve, talking about the big rivalry. Tim is never mentioned.

When you look at all this stuff, it gets a lot clearer why they chose to do the movie the way they did, and that maybe it wasn't just "pure Hollywood evil" or whatever.
