DK, MAME and CPU usage

I'm playing DK on my laptop with MAME, and the CPU is firing on all four cores, fans galore, to the point that the CPU is throttling, which makes gameplay a little sluggish and made me end up with a barrel in my face because a split second maneuver didn't work out due to the sluggishness.

Is there any way to reduce the CPU load?

I suspect your video uses the cpu rather than a gpu ..... probably need a gamer type laptop with a dedicated gpu...
probably cheaper to buy a nintendo switch and run DK on it or setup a retropie....
