I figured it'd be fun to start a thread here specifically for the Spooky version of Donkey Kong Remix.

There are a number of changes, new additions, easter eggs and other extra features in DK Spooky Remix that make it different from DK Remix.  The scoring and gameplay are a bit different and there's strategies to be discovered to best take advantage of these features.

I'll update the list below as discoveries are reported.  A kind of easter egg hunt for players.

The thread should be a good place to discuss strategies in general.  I know I'm leaving it a bit blank for now but I think it'll be interesting once the tournament starts.  I think other players will be interested in your strategies, discoveries, etc.

Having fun starting to play this one, thanks Sock.  I'm seeing a lot of patterned behavior, especially on the first two levels, with the ghosts, sidesteppers, even wild barrels.  Is it an issue with my MAME setup, or something to exploit.  I guess we'll find out . . .

The sense of deja-vu in the game seems kinda spooky even

Great hack, John!  I haven't gotten too far in level progression yet, but the early levels all seem to be similar to regular DK remix, BUT the animation changes are enough to throw things off.  Curious - was something done to the logic on L02-3 to make a different pattern for clearing the level more viable than what would work on regular DK remix?

It's *mostly the same but the placement of a few things has been changed in a couple of screens.  The difference on L02-3 is Jumpman starts in the center instead of a bit to the left.

*some exceptions may apply but the ghosts told me not to say

John has literally been playing with eproms all day especially for this quest.

I'm sure it's way more complicated than my simple suggestion to do so, but it would be great if kits could be released and shipped ahead of tourney's.  I'm sure there are plenty of others here that would also be excited about the opportunity of playing on their cab for the tournament.   <stirpot>

This is the first remix tournament that excluded hardware due to changes in game logic.

To have been able to made hardware on top of the game would have likely doubled the two months Sock already put into this.

I don't feel excluded, my names already on the scoreboard, right there at the bottom (Bensweeney, where are you?!?!).  :D

I was thinking of it as more of an opportunity for you all, but again, probably oversimplifying something that is more hassle than any potential pay-off.  FailFish  I understand these things take time.  What we have in this rom revision is awesome.  And I understand adding additional pressures and deadlines probably increases the stress levels to the point of making it not worth doing.  Again, was just talking while I was thinking.  8)

We are a two person team but the bulk of everything is all John, I just help bounce ideas, take care of social media and sometimes solder the larger parts on boards

Been having an overwhelming sense of not being able to please everyone and I hate to say it but it gets really discouraging really fast for the both of us. We pour our everything into these projects.

I'm Nina Haigh on the list - haven't had a chance to submit a score though

Aww Dan you are so sweet, its not money, we are more than happy to give some cool things to the community, we have been giddy for the past month solid wanting to share Spooky with you all and here still has the same vibe it has always had. It has mostly been my dealings with people on social media. There is a real no wining, can't please them, can't be good enough :/
