You know a sociologist would have a field day with this thread. I didn't say a single bad thing about anyone.  Nothing I said was particularly controversial.  Everyone here can agree on my main point.  We have a very small hobby, even if you disagree with the numbers.  Yes my analogy is perplexing, but it still backs up my point.
There is no real reason to razz me over this.  It's piling on for the sake of piling on.
The biggest irony of all is all the people claiming to be confused specifically will not say what is MOST confusing to them(see I know someone will respond with "all of it is confusing").
So specifically what is most WDA?

Sure... <Tim>

My main confusion is all the superfluity.

It's not irony - this kind of thing should be common sense, so let me help you.

You are comparing a niche group to the CAG community. There are many niche groups that exist. You could've written:

"At the moment there are more people who understand cuneiform than there are classic gamers out there."
"At the moment there are more people who practice fire breathing than there are classic gamers out there."
"At the moment there are more people who compete in chess boxing than there are classic gamers out there."
"At the moment there are more people who collect Snapple bottlecaps than there are classic gamers out there."
"At the moment there are more people who are amateur backyard rocket builders than there are classic gamers out there."

You instead chose to write:

"At the moment there are more Republican, male to female transgenders, who are attracted to women like Caitlyn Jenner than there are classic gamers out there."

You're getting "razzed" and "piled on" because your choice of words was terrible. We already get enough heat from certain SJWs about being sexist and whatnot. Considering there's a tournament this week, it's likely we'll get a few newcomers on the board. Guess what the first topic they're going to see is?

That's why I said it once and I'll say it again - this is a god awful thread post.

Ok, lesson learned.  Talking about a controversial subject in a non controversial way will still bring up controversy.  And I was long winded on the topic as well.  Ok, lesson learned again.

You know, now that Wes brought it up, I imagine I'd be pretty good at Chess-Boxing. Hmm...

If our hobby is so unpopular, then why have there been two major motion pictures released about it over the past couple of years (Wreck It Ralph and Pixels)? There have been no major motion pictures released recently about underwater basket weaving, binge onion eating, or rubber band inflicted blood flow cutoff to the circulation of your penis.

i would not say this hobby is unpopular , i would say its only meant for a select few. oh sure everyone that was old enough in the 80s right up to 90`s who remember the games has a nostalgic feel for them.
Good memory of hanging out with there friends and music and all the trappings of being in an arcade (pizza and pop).
But like i sad "a select few" have the technical skills to handle all the challenges from wood working, art work, electronics, electrical (the games are AC to) and on other side coin Time and Money. So yes sure 100,000`s people will go see movie`s bring there kids try to share the experience with them , its not like they forgotten the games and there memory surrounding them, it just there are so meany barriers, to meany those  who just dont have the will, the time, or the know how to get invalid. there still mame yes and if there was no mame i would not be here talking to you and i bet a lot games would not be restored and most likely trash , one can only hold on to so meany 300 pound refrigerator size artifacts.  :)

Well wreck it ralph was about the video game characters, and not about the players.  Pixels is different.  I do believe it could be a moment in the sun for a few of us.  I can see Robbie Lakeman, Andrew Laidlaw, and David Race getting their 15 minutes of fame because they are "The real Donkey Kong, Galaga, and Pacman Champions."
I even see an increase in membership for the Donkey Kong forums.  I believe 50 people will join the forums in August, after the movie comes out.

Because nostalgia is #1 in our popular culture right now. Underwater basket weaving was never popular but arcade gaming once was.

Good point, nostalgia. I'll boot up the MAME cabinet and friends and family will get all giddy but stop playing after five minutes because the games were not as fulfilling as they remembered.  <confused> Still, Walter Day said it best in the "King of Kong" movie... the classics were deeper and challenged strategy and reflexes more than games released after that. I 100% agree because I remain a lover of 80s classics and have always been lukewarm about anything release since then.
