There was some skill in completing this board, but to be honest it was WAY more luck than anything else.  Well besides that I still think it's an awesome completion.

I lovit, George.

You know, when I really think about it, it totally is the yolo factor in DK that keeps me coming back. I love the whole concept of taking calculated risk and maybe having a back-pocket skill or two to pull out in full swag if things go wrong.

Cool George.

Incidental poll: I would say that the first 15 seconds here are screamin' for the weave. I would have gone for it without a second thought. Am I right?

Nice! It's been a long time since I've seen anyone do this. I think Dean was the last one I saw do it.

I wasnt sure if it was possible because I have never done it or seen anyone do it before.  I had heard of it and in that situation I was just thrown off by that bomb and went for it.

Yeah, back when I first started playing DK, I spent way too much time testing out was actually possible in the game than just playing it. Haha. This is one of the things I had figured out and tested for myself, but then, ironically, I saw Dean do it like the next day. I hadn't seen it since. Didn't think it'd take that long to see again, but I guess most people didn't know it was possible.

Nice one!  Yeah, every once in a while I end up trying this when I'm just a bit too late to set up the back jump -- it's definitely pretty tough to get the smash this way though.

Now, the thing I was thinking about recently is if it's possible to back jump (or straight jump) a group of 2 barrels and smash BOTH of them with the top hammer.  I think it is actually possible but I've never done it and I'm pretty sure no one else has either.  If I had money to throw around I'd put up a bounty to see that!

I think it would be possible if you had that odd two barrel grouping that overlap as a result from a wild barrel and then timing the jump perfectly.  I would like to it if it could happen but setting it up with be a challenge itself and then executing the jump would be even more difficult.

It occurs to me that we've been using the term "back jump", as it applies to a hammer grab and smash on the barrel boards, to describe 2 very different things.  I never gave it much thought until recently.

When back jumping a barrel while grabbing the bottom hammer, we're moving and jumping in the same direction as that of the oncoming barrel.  I think of this as the classic back jump definition.

When we grab the top hammer, it's just the opposite; we're jumping toward the rolling barrel.  In other words, it seems that a top hammer back jump is really a forward jump, except that Mario's sprite is typically facing left (away from the barrel).

Does this make sense to anyone?

I understand. I realize now that I actually have to tweak some of the definitions on the 'DK Terms' thread.  :o

Touche. I actually bet myself that you (specifically!) would call me out on that!

I always feel pretty large when I manage to get out of this situation.
