Easy. Top hammer, rivet board.

It's the one most consistently useful and necessary for survival, and, on average, brings the most feelings of satisfaction/relief when put to use. It's also the one hammer that you most often have to "earn" (ie, finesse your way through danger to get to it).

(If you're playing the game correctly, you'll rarely use the bottom hammer on rivets

)

Worst: top hammer on conveyors. That's the "derp" hammer.

I picked the bottom hammer of the rivets for the rage factor.

But seriously, I like it because it's so meta: The degree and manner in which it gives you an edge over the rest of the board is so subtle and unique.

When everything goes according to plan, it's a toss-up between the bottom hammers on the barrel and rivet boards. I'm giving the edge to the rivets. Occasionally, the Yoleaux (the Trudeaux plus the hat grab) works to perfection and you get to enjoy a few blissful milliseconds where the entire screen is a ghost town. That pleases me.
