No Sound
« on: April 07, 2020, 02:05:29 pm »
I recently started restoring an original Donkey Kong.  I have no sound, and get a speaker buzzing.  I have inquired on other sites and one recommendation is rebuilding the sound board.  I would like to test the speaker to make sure it isn't something easier than the sound board.  Any other suggestions before I rebuild sound board.  I am knew to soldering as well, so any tips would be appreciated.

No sound could be many things. If you just want to test the speaker you can do that with a 9v battery connecting it to the speaker terminals, its crackle. Its almost always not that simple a fix though. The buzzing kinda says the speaker is working.

The thing to do is narrow it down to boardset or monitor, do you have access to another DK machine, a friend have one maybe?
