The unsettling thing about this is that it was just the PCB that power-cycled. The monitor stayed on.

You know this, but I'll mention just in case for anyone reading: the power supply itself only powers the game boards, not the monitor or the marquee light. Those plug into the same terminal as the power supply, all meeting at the transformer, but they're parallel.

The fact that your monitor stayed on should scare you because it means you definitely didn't lose  AC from the wall, so the problem is either in your power supply, your PCB, or the connection between the two.

Here's a question if the ps does test out perfect at +5 what else could cause this pcb reset. I'll try to test this coming up this next weekend

Well, anything can happen once, so it's hard to troubleshoot based on one instance.

I can tell you that this same thing happened to me (board reset with the monitor staying on), but I know exactly how this happened - the PCB came in contact with a piece of metal so there was a short. Board is fine, but the power supply definitely took some damage (and I could smell it). I switched to a different PS.

So if it tests out, you might be alright, and it could have just been an isolated incident of being momentary shorted from who knows what.

i had a power supply that started doing this constantly, it was a fault somewhere in the PS unit, but i dont think i ever managed to pin it down or repair that one, the output voltages would read normal but drop to 0v for an instant during a random reset, so measuring correct voltages wont discount the PS as the problem.

i wouldnt worry about it till its happened twice...

I would just elimate the what ifs. Set meter to volts DC test almost any chip on pcb. Hopefully pic attaches. Make sure your getting +5v. If not get a switcher power supply they are adjustable, Nintendo power supplies are not adjustable. If power supply is good I would contact Greg at arcadeshop.com see if he will test it or exchange it for you.

Nintendo power supplies are not adjustable.

Actually they are adjustable but its not easy. You have to disassemble the power supply and the pots become accessible.
