Anyways, what I wanted to post was a request that this thread also track high scores for each of the first 14 boards.  It would be fun to see the potential of an absolute MEGAstart.  And I'm curious to see how level 4 barrel scores compare to level 5+ barrel scores.

Beyond wild barrels, how are level 4 barrel boards affected by the lower start difficulty?  Based on the regularity I land 15K and 16Ks on level 4 barrels, I'm guessing the lower start difficulty on these boards somehow lends itself to higher scores.

I'm not the best point presser out there but the level 4 barrels seem to yield more points on average than the 5+ levels in my games so I think you are onto something.

I believe L4 fireballs are slightly slower than L5.  So you'd have more time to set up for a bottom hammer.

Yeah, Level 4 fireballs are slightly slower (which can be noticed when the fireball climbs the small ladder under the bottom hammer, you can see that you have more time to take the bottom hammer when it climbs on Level 4 than when it climbs on level 5+).

The fireballs are definitely part of it, but I wonder if there is also some difference in how Kong releases barrels throughout the period of lvl 4 difficulty, and thus some extra amount of time associated with these boards.

I just replayed Dean's Mame WR game while running Pauline and here are some verified scores that beat or are new to your list:

Barrels - 15,700
Pie Factory - 11,700

Thanks John, that's good enough verification since that was definitely a real game. What was the elevator score of his? I need some baseline for that.

Ross,  I know Dean pretty mouch maxed the level 5 start (first 14 boards) not sure what it was, around 140K, but challenging that score will be interesting. It's funny that I never really tried to see what I can do, I still seem content with coming in at 120-125K then playing my game from there. I still don't to elevator press, nor do I group level 4 barrels that often, probably throwing away 10K right there.

If someone has the INP reference of Dean's level 5 score of 140K+, let me know, I can add that to this thread also, lets make it TOP 3.

Hasn't Dean gotten almost 155K start? It was something like 150 or 155k IIRC.

Also on Lvl 4 the slower fireballs do 2 things.

1. You can setup for a bigger bottom hammer. Getting at least 2 and even 3+ Blue Barrels/Fireballs.
2. You can point press the top longer because the fireballs climb up slower. I've found myself pressing points right until the timer runs out sometimes and gotten big 14k and even some 15k boards on LVL 4 which is HUGE for me. I'm trying to get a dang KS now so PP is out the window.

Hey Dave, I may be mistaken, but I think Ross is suggesting that we track the high scores for each of the L01 to L04 stages individually (not necessarily within the same game).  In other words, compiling a list of the "best ever" scores for each of the first 14 boards will serve as an approximation of what the ultimate start might be.

Maintaining a list of the best starts for a single game is also valuable information, but I don't believe it's what Ross was getting at.

Ouch!  If that's true, I'm sorry I missed it.  I've never witnessed a 150k start.

I do recall that Dean had a 148k start a while back.  He played the recording for us during a separate session, a day or so later.  I'm a little fuzzy on the exact time frame.  It's one of those realities of getting older.  I can maintain a fairly accurate timeline of events that transpired during the 1970s, yet incidents that I remember happening last year actually occurred 3 years ago (and vice versa).

This would definitely be fun to track -- I know there is always interest in this in JTV chat.  Might even make for a good seperate thread.  I have a feeling that I have a lot of the high marks for this right now just because I've been putting such a heavy emphasis on trying for big starts for so long now.  Unfortunately, I've never actually written these sorts of "PRs" down, so I'll have to estimate most of them.  I will intentionally estimate lower than the true score just in case (in many cases, I just can't remember the hundreds digit).

1-1  13,400        13,400
1-2  13,000+      24,300+  (I vaguely feel like I've had 14k+ and 25k even, but really don't have strong enough memory of it and I know that Jeff W has higher than this in both cases anyways)

2-1  13,000+      35,000+  (again, I "think" I've had 14k+ and 36k+ but can't remember for sure so we'll estimate low)
2-2  10,000+      43,000+  (not sure if I've ever hit 44k here)
2-3  13,000+      55,000+  (I'd be surprised if I've never had a 14k screen on this highest scoring rivet, but not sure)

3-1  14,000+      66,000+  (these are both definitely low estimates)
3-2  11,000+      75,000+  (again, these are easily low estimates)
3-3  9,700          84,000+
3-4  12,000+      97,000+  (I'd be shocked if I've never gone over 13k on this screen)

4-1  15,000+          ?         (can't specifically recall any 16k L4 barrels during real games)
4-2  11,000+          ?         (I'm pretty confident 12k+ has happened but who knows)
4-3  15,000+          ?
4-4    9,000+          ?         (not positive if 9k+ has happened specifically on 4-4, but definitely on L5+ elevators for sure)
4-5  10,000+     148,000+ (no clue about this screen, I'm sure this is a very low estimate)

I don't see people beating too many of my cumulative scores in the near future but certainly at any moment someone could pop off an absolutely monster individual screen score on any one of these screens and it would be great if people would update this list with those scores if that happens!

I can easily pinpoint these last two, as I tracked them myself.  Both are from Dean's 883,700 game on 03/17/13.
