Donkey Kong Monitor Adjustment Help - Colors Misaligned
« on: May 10, 2014, 09:49:18 am »
Hey everyone, I recently got a Donkey Kong machine, and it plays well, but there are a few problems with the image. One of the problems is that the colors on the girders are off. There appear to be two images (one blue and one red), but they are misaligned, resulting in the wrong colors. The characters, enemies, and other moving components appear to have the correct color, but the structure color is off. The monitor for my machine is a Sanyo EZ20, and I have tried all of the easy adjustments, but nothing has worked to fix the color.
A couple things to note:
-It has horizontal foldover, so that may be causing the problem
-I didn't see it, but apparently the colors were correct before a new power cable was installed, but I don't think that would affect the monitor
Any help would be appreciated, I can post pictures if needed. Thanks!

I don't think that's a monitor issue. Most likely a problem with the color PROM at 2N on the video board. Try removing it from the socket, cleaning up the legs and reseating it. If that doesn't help you can order a new one from Mike's Arcade. http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=DKPROMS

Thanks for the quick response, but that didn't do it. I really think it's the convergent rings for the monitor, but I can't seem to get it right. Prior to adjusting the rings, the score had blue around the bottom, but now we got the score to display just white. However, the blue appears to be slightly too high, since the girders are a little blue, and some of the ladders are off.  Also, the rivet level is purple instead of blue, which makes me think that the blue convergent ring needs to be adjusted. Has anyone had a similar problem or know which convergent ring I need to adjust now?

I still say the multi-colored girders is a board issue. Convergence problem wouldn't cause those sharp color changes right across the middle of a girder.

Did you replace 2N with a known good one?
