Donkey Kong original cocktail table for sale
« on: December 14, 2013, 05:57:17 pm »
New member here.  Played DK since college in the early 80's.  Play it on my 39-1 game table.  Not sure if this is the right way to do this, but I have an original DK cocktail table model TGK3-US, serial number 04891.  Not sure what it's worth but would like to get an idea.  It works but the monitor has been replaced.  Screens look a little different than what I'm used to and there is a different sound when the barrels are smashed.

The cocktails are valued a lot less than the uprights. and most people would rather have a TKG4 than a TKG3 (since the TKG4's are sure to have the updated code and also the edge connector). However, there are definltely those who want TKG3s due to their being far fewer of them in existence.

Exidy gives an estimate of $150-$200 for the cocktails and says "very undesirable."

I think that's low, personally. The board alone can easily get $150 on Ebay. Of course, beyond that, there aren't many parts from the cocktails that people want, and they don't much like the cocktails in general.

I'd say you could get $300, but not much more. I'd start the offering at $400 though, especially if it's nice.

Controls on Nintendo cocktails are miserable, I'd say $300 if it's in great shape.

My first DK was a cocktail.  Paid $350 for it (the guy was asking $500) in 2009.  Sold it a few years later for the same price.

Considering how the game could be parted out, you might conservatively make $100 for the game circuit boards, $100 for both joysticks (if they're original Nintendo sticks), $100 for the Sanyo CRT monitor, and $50 for the Nintendo arcade power supply.  IMO $350 is the sum of its parts, and a reasonable price for the machine.  YMMV.

I appreciate the replies so far.  I think I'll keep it for a little while.  Just got it yesterday.  Such a different feel compared to the one on my other table.  Not used to the joystick in that position.  Seller had it at an audio shop and they were getting the speaker to work.  I asked how much he wanted and he said $200.  I'd just sold some car parts for $40 off a craigslist ad and knew I was going to get another $50 for a pair of used mufflers the next day (today) so I offered $100 for it.  I was surprised he agreed.  Paid the guy, went home to get the truck and picked it up.  Included the manual and other paperwork he had with it.  I'll be on this site more to learn how to get past my current (pathetic) best of 124K.  I think I got to 175K or so back in college (mid 80's).  Some of the tutorials you've all posted here should be a big help.  Like all other "rookies" the third springs board is the one that gets me the most.  Gotta master the timing.
