On May 6th, 2018 DKK member ACU AZU scored 1,113,300 on Donkey Kong at the Daytona III game center in Kawaguchi, Japan. He used an original TKG4-14 PCB in a candy cab and took just shy of 3 hours to achieve his mark. Other members of DKK (Donkey Kong Kenkyū-kai) include
ASN Esperle,
Rukako Hishimiya, and
DKK-Okinawa...a group of fantastic players that Wes and I had the privilege of meeting last year. Okinawa-san
saved us by scoring 1M last December, thus continuing the streak of a new 1M player every year since
2008. AZU-san's 1.1M is the first of 2018 and continues the streak of a new 1.1M player every year since
2010.
I have verified AZU-san's score and updated the
HSL accordingly. You can see the entire video of his gameplay below and the usual stats are attached.
A couple interesting notes:
-AZU-san now has the #11 all-time cross-platform score, and the #10 all-time arcade score. If the last barrel had steered on the killscreen, he would have passed Thomas Bauer by 100 points and made the cross-platform top 10!
-Steve Wiltshire is now out of the top 10 arcade scores, and Jeff Willms is out of the top 12 arcade scores.
-With AZU-san now officially on the DKF leaderboards, it will take a score of 697,600 to crack the top 100. Unofficially (read: kongtrac.kr), it would take a score of 816,700!
I would like to congratulate AZU-san on his fantastic score, and I can't wait to see what comes next!
