A New and Practical Form of Point-Pressing!
« on: October 04, 2013, 05:00:39 pm »
This:

http://www.twitch.tv/marinomitch13/c/3033384

Uses:

Instead of doing two back jumps up top on the barrel stages and getting 3 jumps per every 2 barrels, now you can get 4! Also possibly usable below the bottom hammer while waiting for a fireball that is safely still in the bottom left corner. I will make up a picture demonstrating exactly how I stand and when I jump in order to pull this off -just as soon as I get back from a date I have tonight with my wife. I think this method can actually become quite practical and quick to use with a little practice. The video above is only maybe 10 minutes after I came up with the idea of this leeching method, so I'm no expert at it yet either! I think it is similar in ways -but safer- than the top hammer grab in Crazy Kong.

Let me know your thoughts!

I had a brain fart and stupidly put this topic here. Any chance you can put it under the 'advanced strategy' section, Jeff? Thanks!

Ive been trying to get this down myself. I always have done the top platform that donkey kong stands on but this one would be better since you can have all the barrels coming at you in combinations as well.
Donkey kong  arcade 867,000 kill screen
Donkey kong arcade 1-1 12,800 12,200 12,100 and 12,000
Donkey kong end of level 4 132k

Great (and apparently effective) method, Mitch!  Kongeriffic!

567,200 - Crazy Kong (MAME) - ended on L=21 rivets
555,000 - Donkey Kong (MAME)

I've attached a picture I took and did some work on to show how to perform this leech. I haven't messed around with this in MAME with frame advance yet, so my method is still just an estimate.

1) Jumpman needs to have his front toe line up with give or take 1 pixel from the green line.

2) You need to jump as soon as the front of a rolling barrel reaches the yellow line.

3) You need to Jump as soon as you can after landing. Any running in-between jumps lowers the likelihood of pulling off the leech.

I use the little triangles within the girders to help with precision.

NOTE: In the picture, neither condition 1 or two has been met. Jumpman needs to move over a bit more as he waits; the barrel has more distance yet to travel.
