You jump over it.  Mainly because of the time situation.  You can not die while Mario is in the air when time runs out on the game.  This is definitely a must if you are point pressing.

Ok, all strategy aside, what would you do. You are simply running boards, let's say. ;)

This is supposed to be silly and merely a matter of style/preference.

I'll copy a portion of what I posted in another thread:

"I've always cleared the final rivet by jumping, rather than running over it.  It's mainly a stylistic thing, a personal signature to punctuate the end of the stage.  It's nice to know there's a sound tactical basis for doing so."

My favorite is to jump the rivet such that I land on it and it freezes on the land animation.

I call it "the tailboner."

The tailboner...I've tried this before but was never able to do it...cool.

I usually just walk over it during a longer game.  Jumpman needs to conserve his energy.

Jumping over it is always fun and if you're at 000 it doesn't matter, but just for the record , jumping over the last rivet is a potential loss of 100 pts. I've studied this before , running straight over the last rivet is quick, and the jump can sometimes rob you of 100 while in mid air mainly because of the slight lag. For example, Estel could be a million point player if he didnt do a couple of last rivet jumps. ;) But, just for the record I still jump them....screw it, its more fun.

Even if it wasted 1k to jump over the last rivet, I would still jump over it. It's an unwritten law of Donkey Kong that you have to jump over the last rivet, no matter what!  ;).
