The reason I say that is it seems every time almost that I get to level 9 or beyond, the barrel boards start to act screwy. I know it is probably just me being more observant went things start to go wrong, but I swear it seems too often Donkey Kong starts this screwy stuff like 2 wild barrels in a row, or some crazy combination of barrels that I rarely see or maybe never have seen before. Fortunately I am now to the level where I can actually counter effectively against the weirdness, but still it aggravates me to no end when all of a sudden 5 consecutive boards become extremely weird on me.
P.S. Yes I know it sounds like I am talking about "Moods" here, but due to randomness this does happen.

Yea I kinda know what you're talking about. All of a sudden 2 barrel boards in a row will rain wild barrels down on you...stuff like that. Probably just randomness like you pointed out. Of course, any sort of anomaly will stick out in your mind during a long game where the levels simply repeat themselves.

I recall a particular barrel board on Jermey's first 500 and something thousand game, where Dk toss'd 3 wild barrels in a row, paused then threw another 3 in a row, (in very quick succesion ) the lvl eludes me, but I think it was after lvl13/14 most likley randomness but was still a first for me to witness.
Edit: which he passed like a boss 8).

Nah I dont think so. It could possibly be selective memory, where if you have a game that gets blown on lvl 5 through unlucky circumstances you just restart no big deal. But after 4-5 lvl 9+ games that get screwy on barrels it can really make you wonder. I have had feelings like this myself.

Mental fatigue is a very serious factor in this game.

I don't think it's mental fatigue because I am passing these weird combos on average now. I just think it has to do with the fact that if your game lasts long enough, you have a better chance of getting screwy boards due to the randomness.

Wht da!? I would be really interested in seeing this highlighted!

George this is another thing to consider. It is very very possible through unconscious actions such as always holding right in the air as you jump a barrel, or always holding left for that matter, is actually grouping barrels multiple girders above you in a bad formation, that if on the next girder another barrel gets steered down the broken that you have unknowingly created a situation where you have either created a crazy hard XX_X or even the dreaded unjumpable XXX combo.
Every time you jump a barrel you need to consciously think about which direction or NO direction you should put on the stick in air, to increase the possibility of making bad steers girders ahead that you dont realize.
I have learned that it is better to jump while not holding right or left in some situations. Yea you might not get 100 points but you saved yourself from a potential bad grouping. THis is very very advanced and takes a while to work into your game and have the perception to understand this concept and actively apply it properly to you game.

My mistake Mitch, I just went over the Highlight and it was wild barrel, normal barrel, wild, wild , normal normal, wild, wild, wild

I agree with both. I remember when Rick Carter reached 40 something hours into his Q*bert marathon, he swore that the enemy AI changed. Also George now that you're playing longer games you're going to encounter more and more bad randomness.

Still passed it like a boss! :P ;D

That was a lot of wild barrels.

The only weird thing I ever notice on barrel boards is the occasional stretch of totally unsteerable barrels.
Sometimes 5 or 6 steer attempts in a row will be unsuccessful and it can really mess up the board. Then, the second after this string of bullshit is survived, the board will return to playing like normal with almost all barrels steering cooperatively.
I'm sure there are factors in play here beyond just bad randomness, such as fatigue,.. but these pockets of unsteerable barrels pop up often enough that it always gets me thinking, 'Stop cheating Donkey! You can't change the rules mid-game.'

The deeper the game, the more barrels are filled with moody lions.

I've noticed the stretch of unsteerable barrels myself recently. Had that happen on my 420k and 550k games. Weird, kind of psyched me out a bit.

Sometimes 13 blacks come up in a row on a roulette wheel. People point and comment, oooh look at that...weird man. Then they put all their money on red, and it's black again.

I used to think level 10 was always the level that the barrels would be less controllable, and that was sort of a gift, because to DK programmers, the controllable barrels where actually meant to make the game harder, and maybe there was a "relief" level where things eased off a bit.
But, that could just be randomness.
To me, the conveyors are the ones that get weird to me mid and later in the game. Always have to be fearful of that "fireball in the belly" when getting the bottom hammer. That's the one situation that gets me once every now and then that I've yet to find avoidance from. (Back jumping the hammer away from the fireball is the best move, but if there;s a pie behind you you're screwed).
