Stop-Motion Tribute To Ms. Pac-Man And Donkey Kong Took 96 Days To Make

"Do you hate spending weekends in the office? Talk to Michael Birken. He spent nearly a year’s worth of weekends and holidays at his, filming this ridiculous sticky note stop-motion homage to arcade classics Ms Pac-Man and Donkey Kong.
The project took a total of 96 days spread out over 11 months, Birken says, using 4800 Post-Its in the process. He concedes that the background scenery was masked out and replaced with a single consistent frame, but otherwise each frame was hand-constructed on a wall, shot, and then transferred into the scene you see here.

MDA should get some new viewers to his front page now to see some exclusive photos of the 2005 CAGDC tourney and to learn that the DK WR is held by Billy.
Can count on one hand how many times I even went to the CAGDC main page. Always the forums. Mark probably realizes that so doesn't bother.
Here is a recent blog posting offering quite an extensive review and commentary about Donkey Kong. Apparently a review of Junior is in the works, and I will try and remember to post that when it's completed. The DK post is four pages.

Icelander got the Kill Screen in Donkey Kong
"Very few people in the world have managed to get to this level" says Icelander Mr. Svavar Gunnar Gunnarsson, a masters student at the Niels Bohr institution and an enthusiast about classical computer games. Last Tuesday Mr. Gunnarsson managed to get the so called Kill Screen in the game Donkey Kong, he received 824.300 points and the machine crashed.
The term Kill Screen is well known among gamers. This happens when the memory of the machine is full and then the game crashes, sometimes this is called Winning the game at least in Donkey Kong. Steve Wiebe, a competitor from Redmond, Washington, attained this screen when he attempted to beat Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong high score (which was the world record) on G4TV at E3 2009. It was the first kill screen to be broadcast on live television.
Mr. Gunnarsson started playing the game after he saw the documentary King of Kong. The documentary is about addicted gamers. "I thought that this was the best game that I have played. The game is addicting and you cannot stop playing"
"But then I stopped playing and didn't play for two years. When I moved to Copenhagen I found out that there was an arcade close to where I lived. In there I found Donkey Kong. I thought: Jesus Christ, I have to try to beat by record! I joked about getting the Kill Screen but then it just happened" he said and laughed.
The world champion in Donkey Kong, dr. Hank Chien, who has managed to get 1.100.000 points in the game, congratulated Mr. Gunnarsson on his Facebook page.
"It meant a lot to me to see my name on the list of people who have achieved this" Mr. Gunnarsson added.
So I assume everybody's seen this? It definitely needs to be linked here in any case.

$750? Maybe $75. Maybe.
Being an artisan is difficult when the general population is losing its ability to choose quality over price. From design to finish I dumped my heart into this table. Anyways, if you still think my table is only worth $75 still, then well be it, I wish you the best in life.
I recognize most of them, but what system is the bottom right one from?
Joshua Lombay is great at Timber, and Dig Dug
Edit: Now looking at the list there at least seems to be a decent Asian representation. Ben Mazowita, Hank Chien, and Jimmy Linderman are all in the top 27.

I only met Ben once but I think he is Caucasian. A quick google shows the Mazowita's came from Australia.
I forgot about Jimmy. Although he only spent a few months playing DK and then moved on.

Another quality write-up, as usual. I always say that, so let me know if you get tired of hearing it. ;)
I quickly compared our main HSL with your "rebuilt" Top 20. Your list alerted me to an incorrect score (on our end) for Vincent. I have since made the correction (from 1,135,600 to 1,135,900).
The other differences are highlighted below:
The magic number is 2,700! ;D
Kyle: I know nothing about this 1,018 game. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is video of this anywhere, TG never verified it, and Kyle didn't personally submit it to DKF, it was just passed on by word of mouth (I think). So it's sort of a limbo score, and honestly, I'm not sure how it should be treated. I don't doubt that Kyle did it, but it's tricky, so I just gave the officially verified score the nod, especially because he's in 19th place with either one. I suppose this will become an issue if and when somebody gets a score between 1,012,800 and 1,018,700

Castle Kong: Castle Kong First Look (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tromPQQn6RU#ws)They have a Castle Kong demo unit at Joystick Gamebar in Atlanta. I've played it a few different times. While I really wanted to like it, at this point I'd have to give the gameplay about a 2 out of 10. The graphics aren't bad, but the control is just bad. The controls are sluggish, you move too slow to dodge anything, your hitbox is huge, and the game is tedious patterns.

Speaking of Donkey Kong news I think Robbie Lakeman's new Donkey Kong Arcade record my very well be the most under reported Donkey Kong record ever after three days! Go type in Robbie's score and Donkey Kong, and the results you get are this.

2. A link to my thread on this forum about the feat.
3. A twitter post by a regular user on the topic.
Everything else really isn't even related.

This is actually pretty cool and kind of ties in to something I've wanted to see for a long time. The time-lapse of therivetsriviots is interesting, and makes me wonder if you could do that over an incredibly long time and discern any sort of pattern in firefox movement, either using time-lapse or just grabbing their coordinates from the MAME debugger or whatever. Or anything. Even though firefox movement is pretty well-understood, it would be interesting to see if any patterns emerge over a long enough period of time (FIREFOXES...a couple of questions).

Is there an English translation of this? Also, how does the popularity of DK in Japan compare to the US? Doesn't seem to be as big. Is there a competitive scene and if so why doesn't it seem to be integrated with the scene in the US/West?
I had noticed that the release of the original Donkey Kong arcade game to the United States was not acknowledged in the Associated Press' "Today in History" article for the second day of June for this calendar year (it was usually acknowledged in previous "Today in History" articles for the second day of June in previous calendar years). They probably like to switch things up every once in awhile.
