As a new player currently the deadliest board is the springs board. I know the basic strategy of lining Mario up with the yellow elevator piece and running when I get a long spring and I probably get it about 50% of the time. My biggest struggle is being able to react to if I get a second long spring and not retreating in time. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to most effectivly practice this board? Any tips would be appreciated. :)

There was videos on here before .. Save states are the best for getting used to this.

Save states, as Brian said. Also, I set the speed to 70 or 80% early on, then increased the speed to 120% when I felt like I had it figured. That being said, I'm still not very good.

how can I tell the length inbetween springs?

you can tell from how far it's from kong's foot . There should be a picture or something showing all the different sizes of the springs.

Pay attention to about 50 springs. You'll start noticing that some have a much shorter distance in between. Then you'll start noticing the longer ones.
Pay attention. You'll see the difference

ok my bad I thought you meant the length of time between each spring spawning

The springfinity rom hack by Paul Goes allows you to practice springs without the game stopping when you get hit by a spring. It will give you a visual and audio cue when you would have died but the board doesnt reset. Also, there's unlimited time. So you can put in multiple practice reps, rapidly.

I cannot stress how useful this video is.
The technique showcased may seem daunting at first, but I promise in time it will be invaluable to you. I genuinely believe I have a success rate of 90%+ on Level 4+ springs as a result of using this technique.
As a wise man once said, "Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect."
Good luck on your journey, make a save state of Level 4 springs and practice, practice and practice some more! :D
