Title: List of Arcade/MAME players I consider more accomplished than me

I am making this post just to show how many great players there are in the Arcade/MAME world there are. I have been actively at this for over eight years putting a lot of hours into this, and have accomplished a lot, but still am behind so many. So I decided to list them.
First off, if you get 1.2 million on Donkey Kong you are more accomplished than me. So that includes
1. Robbie Lakeman
2. John McCurdy
3. Wes Copeland
4. Dean Saglio
Second, if you had the highest Donkey Kong score for arcade or highest overall for MAME you're more accomplished than me. So that's
5. Hank Chien
6. Steve Wiebe
7. Tim Sczerby
8. Ben Jos Walbeehm
9. Billy Mitchell 80s
There are others I also include
10. Jeff Willms His two Kong Off wins, and innovation with Donkey Kong
11. Ross Benzinger: His 1.13 million score and his innovation of the game
12. Vince Lemay for his 1.13 million score, and his battle with Hank Chien.
Next I include the big four of Yolympics, and IGBY
13. Matt Hall
14. Martin Bedard
15. Zerstruang
16. Today Is Forgotten
And here are some other names
17. Dwayne Richard: Might be the greatest "legit player"
18. John McAllister: His marathons, and five man Robotron score.
19. Hector Rodriguez: Record holder in Track And Field, Return of the Jedi, Excite Bike. Consistently places ahead of me at tournaments.
20. Donald Hayes: Greatest modern day Arcade/MAME gamer.
21. Abdner Ashman: has done more with the Pac Man series than I have with the Donkey Kong series. Great Robotron player.
22. Andrew Barrow: Five man Galaga championship. Consistent top ten tournament player.
23. Mark Kiehl: Amazing scores in Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong Junior.
24. Mike Kasper: Has a spectacular short career. First place in BOTA, and one time Donkey Kong Junior Arcade champ.
25. Steve Wagner: Top 10 finishes in BOTA, and Yolympics. Several Arcade records.
26. Jimmy Linderman: Mr. Do champion, third place in a CAGDC.
27. Eric Liddell: 80s legend. Great performances at BOTA.
28. Ken House: Founded BOTA, former Dig Dug record holder. Has very finishes in BOTA.
29. Daniel Desjardins: 1.059 million Donkey Kong player consistent top ten finishes in Yolympics, and IGBY.
30. David Nielsen: About a dozen records, won a Funspot tournament.
31. Kalen Harvest: Won a Grinkers tournament, and did better than me at BOTA.
32. Ben Gold: That's incredible champ.
33. George Strain: All around great player. Better than me at a few games I consider myself good at.
34. Fred Dehart: Galloping Ghost player of the year way better than me at Yolympics.
35. Rik Fothergil: First official perfect Pac Man. Great at Junior Pac Man.
36. Steve Krogman. Only one major score, but it's a big one Galaga marathon record holder. A record he's had since 1989 despite major competition.
37. Tony Temple: Only one score, but it's a big one five city Missile Command.
38. Aart Van Vliet: Former Galaxian record holder. Great Pac Man series player.
39. Charlie Far: Just one score, but it's two million on Galaxian Arcade. Big score.
David Race: Fastest time on a perfect score Pac Man
40. Ben Falls: Early million point player in Donkey Kong, and Satan's Hallow record holder. Insanely great Popeye record. Two CAGDC tournament wins
41. Allen Staal: No one has grinded a single video game more than Staal has with Donkey Kong. That's a huge accomplishment to stick with a game so long.
42. Brian Allen: For being part of one of the greatest Donkey Kong rivalries of all time, and for record scores on Mad Alien, Red UFO, and Space Firebird. Great gamer
43. Brian Kuhn: had 16 arcade world records in a single day.
44. Sid Seattle: Tournament organizer, had seven world records in a single day, and famed programmer. He's done it all.
45. Jamie Tibbits
46. James White
Ok, I know I'm forgetting some big names. So chime in with people you think are more accomplished than me in the Golden Age of Arcade/MAME gaming. Let's see if I even make the top 100. 8)

Uhm Kiwi, the numbers aren't ranked. Donald Hayes would be way higher than 20th. <stirpot>

Nintendo made 12 arcade games during the Golden era. I have higher scores than him in 9 out of 12 games.
He's got me when it comes to Popeye, Mario bros, and Donkey Kong,
I beat him in Donkey Kong Junior, Donkey Kong 3, Arm Wrestling, Punch Out, Super Punch Out, Radar Scope, Sheriff, Sky Skipper, and Space Firebird.

His Popeye score is out of this world amazing though.

I'll put him up there simply for being the greatest grinder of a single arcade game of all time. And now that I think of it, if Staal is up there, I have to put up his arch rival Brian Allen. Both created one of the greatest rivalries of all time.

Not to sound like a fanboy but he's also amazing on Frogger, Moon Patrol and Centipede. All three of which blow away the 9 Nintendo games you beat him on.

Anyone who has a tournament win in CAGDC, BOTA, Grinkers, Yolympics, IGBY, Funspot/Brofest, and the Arcade world championship is a more accomplished gamer than me. I can't make the top ten even if the games are in my favor like BOTA was with DK3, Moon Patrol, and Zaxxon.

The game plays very similarly to Qix - you control a "line" that must avoid monsters: spiders in screen 1, flames and the sun in screen 2, and a rotating 3d triangle in screen 3 that splits into tons of little figures, including a careening stick of butter, at one point.

Post by: Verminator on June 12, 2018, 01:17:06 pm: Chicago scene is underrepresented (you'll find some other great players by referring to Aurcade, past BOTA standings, past MAME events, and high score boards on the local arcades' web sites.

Jamie Tibbetts and James White should be on this list. Fred is great but they are more accomplished than him. There are a few others that are very accomplished as well.

(By the way, I am not implying that I should be on the list... I am nowhere near the level of Jamie, James, and some of the other players in that area.)

Edit: Fred will kill me if he sees this... HAHA!!!

Post by: homerwannabee on June 14, 2018, 04:46:07 pm: I truly believe I probably would have been thought of as a much better Arcade gamer if I had spent the 3,000 hours of time I have played DK, DKJr, and DK3 on a wide variety of 100 arcade games instead.

Edit I wouldn't change a thing though. Very happy about my time spent on these games. :)
