I got an amazing bar stool as a gift for my arcade games. Problem is it is 24" tall. It feels a bit short...like I am looking up at the screen. What bar stool height do you guys use???? The next size up is 30".
-
yeah 24 is small for sure, i keep mine at its max height which is 30/31", this is a good height for DK...

I also need to get this part of my life together.
If I'm only going to play for an hour or two I'll just stand, but for longer sessions, my cobbled-together improvised seating is definitely problematic.
30", now I have a standard to look for, that's useful.

I love playing standing up...but you're right Chris, it's only good for an hour or two. Looks like I'm going to have to try and return the stool.

This topic would not be an issue for most Donkey Kong 3 players! 8)

i would also really like to play standing more but dk cabs are just to small the average guy needs to hunch or using weird stances...

Well, the Nintendo cabinet WAS originally designed by and for Japanese folks (on average, 4-5" shorter than the average person of European descent). Makes sense over there, doesn't work so well here.
It must be very uncomfortable for Billy Mitchell in particular...

Well to be honest I think the stool is necessary not because of height, but because Donkey Kong is a precision game more than it is a herky jerky think on your feet game. Donkey Kong 3 comes from the same cabinet, and me, Dwayne Richard, and Shawn Cram all stand when playing the game. To be honest though I think I am the tallest of the 3 at 5 Feet 10 inches.

The Nintendo cabs hurt my back when I play on them standing up. If I was shorter, though, I'd have no problem playing without a chair.

I didn't like sitting at games before, but now I prefer to sit whenever possible. I like a higher stool, but I've never measured one.

I've actually been going the other way around as of recently, Ben. I used to only ever play while sitting, but then Rusty Quarters had to disallow stools due to a lack of walking space and some doofuses hogging games. Now, whenever I go to RQ (which is often) I am forced to stand. I've actually found this is better for my back's recovery on days that I end up doing snow removal and other types of work that typically make my back sore. I do hope they allow stools again once they move to a bigger location, though...

Advertised as a 29" stool but it's actually closer to 31" with the padded cushion
