Kong decided to take a break from rolling all those heavy barrels and spent a few weeks travelling the USA, visiting various sites of tourist and historical interest.
For the first person that can identify all 12 sites Kong visited who does not already have one, I have a DK Forum t-shirt:
All sites are viewable either from Google Street View or Google Spheres (360-degree photos taken at sites of interest and marked with a little blue circle on Google Maps when you pick up the little Street View guy).
You may post your guesses to the thread and I will tell you how many are correct, but not which ones. <thefinger>
If the winner already has one, he may designate any other forum member to receive it.

Can we reply as we discover each one or should we wait untill we have all 12?

To win you have to get all 12 in one post.
Guessing less than 12 will just be giving away information to others....but people in the past have done it anyway. For example, see https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=1008.0 (https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=1008.0)

Understood.
Some of these are tricky <confused>

I'll update this same post about every hour to add a randomly chosen hint until there is one for all 12 sites.
But I won't say which hint goes with which site. <thefinger>
- Just some hotel.
- See that straight line running along the pavement towards the camera? That's significant. And it's about to intersect with another one.
- An intersection in the middle of nowhere. What could possible happen there of cultural significance?
- See those six markers on the asphalt off to Kong's right? There are three other similar sets nearby.
- Well, you can't park cars at the summit of Denali, can you?
- It would be more obvious if the photo was cropped less tightly at the top.
- Rudyard Kipling was wrong. They met here.
- See that thing in the background? It only has 50 possible names.
- Grave markers all alike in perfect alignment. Gotta be a flagpole behind Kong, right? Put that together with the terrain you see for miles in the background.
- Who parks a private jet in their driveway?
- The Interstate numbers ought to put you in the right neighborhood.
- You'll notice there are no cherry trees in the yard there.

Handing someone a few of the answers cos why not? 12 at once is going to be tough.
No2 Four corners Monument New Mexico - I had a look at that before and it looked familiar
No3 Devils Tower Wyoming - Probably the easiest - Close encounters of Third Kind
No7 The Watergate Hotel Washington DC
No12 Pike's Peak Colorado - I've seen a lot of racing up the mountainside. And there's a car park right at the top
Not too bad considering I'm not even a US citizen.
I knew 2 and found 2 in a few mins of google-fu
No idea about the others though

Six are correct. (GOSP standing for Golden Spike, national historic site at Promontory Summit, Utah, where in 1869 the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads joined, completing the first American transcontinental railroad.)
