Title: Has anyone had constant slow improvement score wise?
Post by: homerwannabee on March 23, 2013, 08:55:53 pm
It's almost becoming a running joke with me recently.  after getting my all time high score I immediately die a board or two later.   It would be one thing if this happened to me once or twice in a row, but now it has happened 5 times in a row!

For instance,
on March 3rd I break my all time high of 319,200, and get 329,800
on March 4th I break my all time high of 329,800, and get 341,600
on March 7th I break my all time high of 341,600, and get 347,300
on March 13th I break my all time high of 347,300, and get 352,500
Today I break my all time high of 352,500, and get 359,100

That means I have broken my all time high score 5 different times, and only increased my all time high score by less than 40,000 points.  It's definitely been a VERY slow ride to the top.  Anyone else have a problem similar to mine?

I haven't been able to improve on my personal best at all in the past 14 months.

Scores over 500k, in chronological order:

679,600 on 2012-01-17
757,400 on 2012-01-19  <=  High score for 430 days and counting
665,500 on 2012-02-09
530,300 on 2012-03-07
699,700 on 2012-08-02
573,700 on 2012-09-27
704,600 on 2012-10-06
647,600 on 2012-10-17
508,700 on 2012-10-27
674,000 on 2012-10-31
562,400 on 2013-01-29
754,300 on 2013-03-11
741,000 on 2013-03-24

In my own defense, I'll cite the following reasons for my lack of progress:

And there we are.

EDIT:  Just added my latest "almost" personal best.  Game ended 35 minutes ago on Level 18-4.  Final score was 741,000.  First 2 deaths were on barrel boards, last 2 on elevators.  All 4 were entirely my fault.  I was running boards the entire game, with no bottom hammers or point-pressing of any kind, so my pace was ~50k below my usual.  I was pleased that (1) I had no pie factory or rivet deaths, and (2) it was the deepest I've taken a game thus far.  An overall disappointment, but at least I know my first killscreen could conceivably occur any day now.

I tend to take months to get a personal best and then I randomly beat that score by a lot then wait another couple months.  First month best was 148k.  Then next month 220k.  Then 365k and 390k.  Then straight to 540k.  Then straight to 702k.  The 860k kill screen and eventually 1.007k.

Lol, I just looked up my high score when I got it was around july 2011. I didn't play a lot in 2012 though. Just really got serious about it back in Feb and have had two 700 games.

Stella I you get time to play serious which it looks like you are. Wanna see who can get the first kill screen? We seem to be pretty closely matched. Lol.

Sure, I'll give it a shot.  If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on you, though.  I've already demonstrated, on more than 2000 separate occasions, that I'm incapable of surviving 116 boards without tripping over my own feet 4 times.   ;)

Steve Wagner will be commencing his push for 1M very soon; he's already killscreened the game.  I've been thinking about taking on a similar, scaled-back project as a show of support.  It will be like jogging alongside a marathon runner for the final 100 yards.

There will be a few key differences in my "journey":
I will most likely begin, appropriately enough, on April Fool's Day.  Ready?

Lol. I do 7 games a week now. A couple of them playing for a million and a couple just for kill screen at a 900k pace. You are getting in the 700k area a lot more than me it looks like. I've had only one 700k game this year and that was during the tournament. I played a single hammer barrel stage at 950k pace last night to 500k. I was on 50k level and was amazed at I was doing so well for a single hammer. Lol
