Title: Playcounts of shame
Post by: QAOP Spaceman on August 05, 2016, 12:30:48 am

As always during these contests, there were a few people claiming they got their submitted IGBY scores on the second or third attempt at a game.  ::)

It took me 12 - 15 attempts at Armored Car before I even realised there was a go-faster button  FailFish

So, in celebration of (and in solidarity with) the other slow learners here, I hereby publish my IGBY playcount of shame:

Everything else I played on RU (including probably 50 attempts on Armored Car)

Now come on everyone, I've shown you mine - now show me yours!

You might have seen comments on some of my IGBY 2016 submissions that said "2nd game" or "3rd game". This was not to reflect that I did it on my 2nd or 3rd try but referred to that it was the 2nd game or 3rd game in the input file I submitted.

For IGBY 2016 I played a lot of credits for most of the games. Highest playcount HAS to be Zero Time. My average game was like 3-4 minutes and I played that game for 8+ hours.

Good lord a DAY of block out  <gasp>
grinder_games

I really wish the newer MAMEs had an in-built playcount feature like 106. Would have been very interesting for me after the last Crap Tourney :D
Not fun doing it manually, hard enough grinding the damn games let alone working out how long you played that shite lol

Edit: Around 2011 when I was using 106, I remember the highest play count of mine being Megadon with just over 900. This was in the span of about 2 months. Super restart heavy that game, you could easily rack up 50 within an hour.

How odd that everyone wishes the new Mames could do half the things 106 can. I just assumed all the mames would show you a playcount. I suppose this will be a pretty empty thread then.

At least Jry can be relied on to keep statistics. Here's a graph of Jry's July 2016 (adjusted for 6 hours of sleep per 24 hours.)

Its just the GUI that used to come with it. 106 was last version with that in-built interface.
Theres probably some other front-ends which show you the same stats (+ more), but I've never really looked into it because command line is so simple to use <thefinger>

loooooo. That chart looks about right. I think I had estimated somewhere around 16-17% of my time was IGBY.

I actually made a batch file to extract the timestamps from my INPs. I recorded every game, used the batch file to grab the timestamps, and then put all of that into Excel to get the totals.

Playcounts of proudness.  You crushed it and you maintained the DKF spreadsheet the whole time doing it...  You are legend, and it was an honor to fight by your side.  Jry, I may try and make out with you next time we meet.

2nd or 3rd? Who has time for that. Some of mine were 1st or 2nd.

I don't remember the actual numbers but I am sure all games were 1 attempts with less than 10 mins except dinos, ketsui, and block hole lit  Kappa

Not bad for someone who didn't score any points

This thread is the first compelling reason I have seen to use .106. I will try to do that for the next one so I can join in the humiliation.
