DK3 - World Records and Badges

(1/3) > >>

xelnia:
After many discussions with ersatz for his great write-up on the history of DKF badges and teasing Estel about getting the arcade record for Difficulty 4, I've starting thinking more about how we should approach badges for DK3...and I could use some community guidance.

Right now, DK, DKJR, and CK have separate badges for the arcade WR and MAME WR, as well as separate badges for having the former WR on each platform. For DK3, my approach has been to award the current WR badge to any player who has the highest overall, cross-platform score on any of the 8 tracks (Marathon and 5 Lives for Difficulty 1, 2, 3, 4) and the former WR badge for any player who used to have the highest overall, cross-platform score on any of the 8 tracks. There has been no separation of arcade or MAME in terms of badges.

So the question is: do we want to create separate badges for arcade and MAME for current/former DK3 world record holders?
And the follow-up question: how accurately can we determine the world record progression for every track?
And the second follow-up question: do we keep the single WR badge we have or do we create new badges for every track, with slight variations for platform and current/former? I'm envisioning 8 basic badges that would be slightly differentiated for arcade vs. MAME, then grayscaled versions of those for former WRs...that's 32 badges.

To that last point, if we created track-based badges, JV would end up with 7 current WR badges. Riley would probably end up with 1342309823948 former WR badges. Is that too much clutter?

Here is a preliminary history of DK3 world records. I consider this to be unfinished and will someday be part of a larger collection of DK, DKJR, and CK WR progression charts that I'll share. But it might be helpful to share right now...both to determine badge eligibility and correct my errors.

So, share your thoughts please. And if anyone wants to go ahead and design some new badges...pls and thx.

I'm perfectly fine with whatever.  8)
Having said, that. An idea.  How about an undisputed badge.
Given to the person holding records in all 8 tracks.
With Justin Elliott holding the five man difficulty 4 record it's obvious that it's extremely hard to pull that off nowadays

I forgot to say that you did amazing work tracking the records of each difficulty.
Bravo!  8)

How are you tracking Marp when it's broken ? No one is ever going to beat those scores there until it's fixed

???

All of the highest DK3 scores ever are currently represented on DKF and TG. And all past TG and MARP scores can easily be determined.
