Likewise, and as always, everyone enjoyed seeing so many people playing Donkey Kong. Lakeman again throws up a big score. Jason again loses out on money. A player again makes a late appearance with their last quarter to steal a spot. And I once again was not on the top of my game and was dying on springs. Did anyone else forget how to play this weekend?

And I once again was not on the top of my game and was dying on springs.

I denied the springs the opportunity to kill me, by shrewdly walking off the top center platform (witnessed by Robbie and Ross).  I was testing a law of cartoon physics, where Wile E. Coyote steps off a cliff, but doesn't plummet to earth until he looks down and realizes there's nothing under his feet.  Sadly, the same principle doesn't hold true in DK.

DK Level 1-1

Yes great fun again all. I'm feeling that 1 million is just around the corner if I want it. To be honest playing at just a 1.02 pace felt SLOW to me with all the Speed-Running and WR attempts I have put it. I just choked a couple of times but the Rivets and PF for a couple of games were brutal (of course) and a couple of times multiple barrels steered into x_x_x combos when I least expected it. Taking both the short ladder and then a broken to form that combo I mean really! :D I need to be able to identify that happening sooner so I'm not in a bad spot and I think I can make it there if I really try for it.  BibleThump

You just wait till next time I tell you!

Did anyone else forget how to play this weekend?

I didn't touch the machine until the tourney was half over. Kinda wish I'd just stuck with my plan of not playing.  ;D Out of I think 17 quarters, I got exactly TWO games that I didn't have to dump by level 7 and both of them petered out in the 500Ks.

However, if I'd known 913K was going to be good for first place money, I would have been cranking all weekend. Missed opportunity, because that's a score I actually could have beaten (and a bar that low will never, ever happen again in one of these!) As I said in the shoutbox, it's not about the money itself, the fun is trying to strategize around winning the money (if that makes sense) (parentheses)  <Pigger>.

This time I learned that I either need to go all out and dedicate myself to the whole weekend or not play at all. That 500K on the scoreboard is an eyesore. If I'd played on Friday night/Saturday, I wouldn't have to look at it.

It also really brought into focus how much less-fun DK is for me nowadays than just about any other game. I plugged my 60-in-1 back in right after the tournament and played some Pengo and Ms. Pac and it was the first time at the cab all weekend that I wasn't angry and bored. I just can't bring myself to care much about DK anymore. If it weren't for these tourneys, I would have moved on. I have what I need for a mid/upper 900K-ish score (little too sloppy for a million) but I can't see myself doing more refining or pushing my skill set higher. Not because I don't have the potential, but because I have no fire for that. There are too many other games to play!

I'm getting closer to the Phil camp - spectating is really the ultimate enjoyment of these tourneys. Watching you guys is glorious.

Congrats to everyone who played in the tournament. It was a great event. Sad I wasn't able to get a great game in, but that just means it's time to go back to the shed and practice Kappa

I have to admit one of my biggest disappointments was not seeing Eric Tessler break a million, but there's always next time.

I only had time to play one game and I was on 2 hours of sleep...so I purposely just ran boards lol but I did not expect to put up a 922k game so I am happy about that  :D

John and I wanted to thank everyone for participating in this event and we are really looking forward to the next one coming sometime in mid-late August. We enjoy running these events and they are really great for our DK community.

Now for the not so fun part :-[

Jason Corey Brittain has made some public remarks about our tournaments being "rigged" as far as the bounties are concerned. He made this statement mainly because the second mystery bounty happened to be for 32nd place which was last place in the tournament (awarded to Chuck Vess, 2,200 points). The mystery bounties are determined by using a random number generator and for this tournament, the numbers 12 and 32 came up. Jason could not believe that this was possible so he accused John and I for rigging the bounties that are being paid out. Shortly afterwards, Jason unfriended both John and I on facebook (for the second time), which is why I am making this post on the DK forums.

Jason Corey Brittain (and anyone else who agrees with him): John and I are simply not going to tolerate this kind of behavior. Contestants earn their winnings by the scores and bounties that they submit. It is the responsibility of the contestants themselves to read through and understand all of the rules of the tournament (and if something is unclear, contact us and ask questions). If you do not agree with the rules or the format of the tournament, don't play. So from this point forward, any other instance of accusing us of rigging/cheating or anything else we deem to be out of line, that person will be banned from all future tournaments. We are simply not going to put up with this kind of behavior anymore.

Now that this is out of the way, good luck to everyone in the upcoming tournaments and get ready for the Kong Off 4!!!

PS: I will get my million point game, someday  :o

Eric: Next time, for the mistery bounties, you should give it to a random person that didn't participate in the tournament.  Kappa
