I'm glad to see some efforts being made to try to preserve some of these histories before they are forgotten.

Definitely. Something else I'd like to see is compiled is each 1M+ player's score progression over the years. It's great to look at the DKF HSL and the TG scoreboard and see Hank's 1.138 and Dean's 1.167 (and every 1M+), but the march to those scores is just as interesting and important as the scores themselves. That's something I don't want to be lost.

I'm pretty confident that this is actually incorrect.  Steve's million point games at the KO2 were not the first ones that he ever did live.  It would take some digging around to find where he had done it previously, but I remember a few years back when I was surfing around trying to look into this sort of thing that there were a few smaller and lesser known places where Steve played in an arcade setting.  At least one of these (and it may have happened more than once) he did just barely break a million.  I don't remember if I was poking around on YouTube or TG or where I remember seeing this but that's what I remember anyway.

But yeah, Billy's live game in 2007 of 1,050,200 was the first known live million point game (this is the one where he was on pace for around 1,110,000 but killed it off early).  I vaguely remember that this game was approved during the "Live Only" rule, although I could be wrong about that -- perhaps that rule went into effect after Billy's game was verified I don't remember.

I'm glad to see some efforts being made to try to preserve some of these histories before they are forgotten.

Steve Wiebe's (wiki) entry is completely wrong (which we know can be the case with wiki) where it states : Wiebe was the first person to achieve over a million points in a public game, with a score of 1,006,600 on July 4, 2004.

This is his his million point game we are referencing here, but it is taped and is of course the "wipe my butt" game from KoK, the one that started all the controversary. But yeah, like Hank said, he did the million live at one of his events before KO2, I remember the gaming jsut squeeking by 1,000,000, I think it actually happnened on the killscreen.

Yeah, that live Billy game was at a private live event with a convention of mortgage brokers or something like that.

Actually the "wipe my butt" game wasn't a 1M game.  The KoK editors made it look that way.  The "wipe my butt" game was just under 1M.  The 1.006M game was definitely a home recording though.  As I mentioned earlier, I'm also fairly certain is was on an 8-way (I bought the recording from Alpiger bitd).

It's funny how unclear the history of DK is during the "dark period"... everyone thought everyone else was cheating and nobody was allowed to get 1M unless it was in front of a referee.

Hahaha, good to see that again!  Alpiger cracks me up.  Hard to believe that was nearly 4 years ago!

OK, I have that DVD also from Alpiger, and yes thats not the "wipe my butt" game, but I always thought that game was 1M also.  The site I use to always use as a timeline for years was this

http://superbunker.com/resources/dkt/

And this has the first mill game as 1,000,600....could be a typo, or a different game from the 1,006M alpigier DVD. Either way, this site is a good timeline for the newer guys that have never read any of the earlier stuff.

Yeah, if people are interested, I can try to see if I still have all of the inp files saved and try to put together some dates for how my PB progressed.  They are all generally seperated by about a year each I think, but my MAME scores bumped up something like this:

762k
1.026M
1.051M
1.073M
1.136M
1.153M
1.167M

So yeah, if people are interested I can probably find the exact scores and dates for these games.  I was recently thinking it might be fun to go back and rebroadcast my old 762k game or my 1.026M game on twitch and make fun of how raw my game probably looked back then as compared to today, hehe.  I don't think I've looked at those games in years and it might be sort of funny to see.

If we could piece together a similar history for Steve and if a few other guys like Hank, Vincent etc want to put together a history of their PB scores it might be interesting to the community as well.

I can help out with the exact scores and dates for a few of those:

Score

Date
1,026,700

05/07/2009
1,073,000

11/30/2009
1,136,400

04/19/2010
1,153,000

04/02/2011
1,167,400

04/21/2012

Unfortunately, I don't have the INP files for the 762K and 1.051M games.

DK High Score
1,064,500
  (L22-1)
DK Level 1-1
13,400
DK No Hammer
535,300
  (L15-2)

I have pretty accurate records of all my TG submissions:

11/??/08 - started playing
12/25/08 640,000 (MAME)
1/29/09 758,400 (MAME)
2/21/09 897,400 (MAME)
9/26/09 1,005,800 (Arcade)
2/26/10 1,061,700 (Arcade)
12/27/10 1,068,000 (Arcade)
2/27/11 1,090,400 (Arcade)
5/19/12 1,110,100 (Arcade)
7/25/12 1,127,700 (Arcade)
11/4/12 1,138,600 (Arcade)

After my first year, I dramatically cut down the amount of time I played (burned out, work picked up etc), so this might not be the most accurate progression in terms of timeline.

EDIT: I actually think the new TG has listings of everyone's history of scores (when I click on My Scores it has all my previous submissions, I'm not sure if the date is saved though).

OMG! I am so sorry about that. (How the f did I even do that?)

You're not gonna believe this, but this morning when I woke up, one of the first thoughts that popped into my head was "that Jon McKinnell is actually a pretty amazing player... first the no-hammer tourney with a huge score, then he gets the million, then he effortlessly gets to L30 on the no-kill screen hack, that guy is f'kn serious."

And here I forgot to put you on this list.  :D

I think I probably knew what I'd done, subconsciously, and was trying to tell myself something. My mind talks to itself that way in the morning.

For the record, this is how it happened: there are 18 million plus players on our DKF score list. I had 18 on here. So when I saw 18 on both lists, I said "OK, I've got all of them."

But I forgot to remove Scott Kessler from the equation, since he's the one million point player not on our score list.

On Steve Wiebe's first mil: you guys (Dean, Dave, et al) are almost certainly right about Wiebe doing a live million somewhere else first. I don't even remember where I heard that he had never done it before KO2, but somebody said so and I guess I just took it as truth because I couldn't think of a counter-example. You guys were around before me though so you could easily have a memory of something that I wasn't there for, even if you can't place it specifically.

Also, you have Billy's million a whole year earlier. It was 2005. Steve's million date is right, but Billy's video was shown/verified at Funspot in 2005 when wiebe was there.

I already addressed this date issue (I got 6/7/04 from CAGdc), but I just discovered official corroboration for that date.

Here is a snapshot of the score detail page from TG.com itself.

The question, of course, is whether to believe the date (or the score for that matter), but there it is.

The Internet Wayback Machine is awesome! Maybe I can find some old TG forum threads...
