Looking for help on this DK machine
« on: December 06, 2016, 01:20:15 pm »
How about this one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dnsgames4sale/page8

I'm new to shopping, but everything looks a little too new to me, and if it's original and in that pristine  condition, it's going to be way outside of my price range.  But, it's 20 minutes from my house, and it's the first one I've seen within 100 miles in ages.

Thanks

looks restored to me in that condition.   Go check it out.  Make sure it works and you should be good.

It looks like there's some scratches in the paint on the sides that have been touched up.  The CPO is a bit beat up, but not too bad, giving it a look of originality.  The blue buttons appear original.  The orange button is hard to tell...one picture looks like it is original, the other one looks like it isn't.  Original ninty orange buttons are closer to a peach or yellow.  Repros are very orangey orange.  You can also tell by the "peak" of the highest point on the button.  The peak on original buttons almost has a sharpness to it.  Repros are more rounded.

Power supply and iso transformer appear correct for a later blue TKG4 cab.  Appears the t-molding was replaced with incorrect convex-surface molding (original and correct replacement is flat).

Nothing else that really stands out in the pictures as being incorrect or suspicious.  Based on what I see, it is definitely worth looking at.

Just zoomed in on the side art as much as possible.  It appears to be original.  You can tell because the lines are "blocky".  They don't taper at the ends.

I will see if I can find the thread on KLOV with pictures illustrating this.

And it goes without saying, if the side art is originaly, it is very unlikely it has been repainted.

:edit: I had it backwards the blocky ends of lines, particularly at the hands, are repro.  This link has good pics of NOS, start on page 5.  Post 57 has good pictures comparing DK's hand across original and a couple repros.

At the end of the day, this is probably a bit of over-analysis.  From what I see, the cab looks to be in really good shape, mostly original.  If the price is right, and unless something really sticks out when you go look at it, it looks like it could be a keeper.

looks to be in good shape, so probably out of my price range for now.  Thanks so much for the advice.  I'm driving through their town Saturday, so I've asked to stop by and have a look at all the cabs.  I'd gladly take the Wizard of Wor or Zookeeper off his hands, too.

Are submissions on the Double Donkey Kong cabs ever admissible to DKF?  I don't care about TG.
