Honestly, I saw it live, and at first, I was sure the fireball froze, then unfroze, then immediately froze again (double freeze) before climbing back up. But after looking at the highlight, it didn't even move a single pixel, which means it didn't freeze a second time before climbing up! Maybe it froze, unfroze, froze again WITHOUT moving? Is that even possible?

Is it really a 15 seconds freezing fireball?!? I never know there was any way a fireball could freeze more than 7 seconds in one freeze. I mean, that's impossible. But now, I don't know what to think. That's just insane!

I told Ethan to highlight it because I was mind-blowned  :D.

I don't know how programming works but you had two freezers going on maybe it thought it had the other fireball to freeze or really maybe it's something that we can't explain. we need Don to break it down. Lol.

The fireballs make decisions every few seconds. So it's not that it stayed frozen, it probably just made the decision to freeze a few times in a row.

That's the point, Chris.

A fireball is only able to freeze, unfreeze then freeze again one time. It can't unfreeze and freeze more than one time before climbing up (I don't think I've ever seen otherwise). And the maximum time a fireball is able to freeze is 7 seconds, which mean not only the fireball got 2 times a full maximum of freezing time, but it did without moving.

I honestly thought that the fireball needed to move at least one pixel to be able to unfreeze and freeze again, too. But this shown that it doesn't need to move, and the unfreeze/freezing can occur without any moving and the 2 freezing can both be 7 seconds, which is the maximum a fireball can freeze in one freezing!

I think this is pretty cool, personally.

Also, Mario was frozen the whole time, a rare thing to see. If I want action, I'm moving and clicking to influence a reaction . He just stood there and waited while it was frozen. Goes to show that input from Mario can possibly influence the fireball. When it's 7 seconds was up, there was no input to influence the fireball. So maybe that led to it refreezing  in place. And yes I've seen a freezer unfreeze, move some, and freeze again before going up/down the ladder.

Yea, woulda been interesting to see if it woulda stayed frozen longer if Mario stood still on the ladder...after about 10 seconds Mario moved a bit...then 2-3 seconds later the fireball finally started moving again.

I steer fireballs down ladders all the time...so I already know you can influence fireballs = )

Yeah, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a fireball freeze for that long (but I've seen some pretty long ones). Basically for this kind of freeze the fireball is checking at regular intervals whether or not to unfreeze, and for each check there is a 1/2 chance that it will unfreeze. So theoretically there is no limit on the amount of time it can stay frozen. The interval at which it checks to unfreeze is actually longer for lower internal difficulty so it's easier to get a really long freezer at L4 internal difficulty, like in the video, than at L5. I think at L4 the interval is about once every second so this event was about a (1/2)^15 = 1/32768 occurrence.

I had a long fireball freeze tonight, I think of about 15 seconds on the L7 pie factory. Sorry for the language, but I was having some pretty unlucky things happen leading up to this event.  <mad>
