DK Cabinet coin adjustments`
« on: January 09, 2016, 10:50:35 pm »
Hi,

I run a barcade in North Carolina and I'm trying to figure out how to adjust my coin settings on my cabinet. I can tell that it's not an original, and I can see some kind of serial port I can plug in to the emulator in the way back there, is there some kind of software I need to download to manage all of the game adjustments?

Thanks in advance for helping me out, definitely feel like a noob right now  :P

Is it a MAME cabinet?  Some pictures of the hardware and startup and game screens would be helpful.  If it is MAME, you simply have to plug in a keyboard, and once in game, then press 'TAB'.  This will bring up a menu with controller settings, dip switch settings and some other customizable features.  The dip switches is where you would adjust coin settings.

Attached is a picture of the MAME DK dip switch menu.

If it's not MAME, and some other type of hardware, there are probably folks on here that could help you identify it and how to manipulate coinage and other settings.

Hey Thanks for the reply! I think it's MAME based on what I've read, but I'm not sure. I attached some pics, all I see as an input is a VGA, so I'm not sure how I would plug a keyboard into that. Thanks again so much for the help, you guys sure are a great community!

What you've got there is one of the standard 60-in-1 boards, and that particular board is such that you're only going to be able to adjust the game settings if you get into the board's settings menu.

There is a bank of dipswitches on that board. Turn the machine off, switch #4 to ON, turn it back on, and then you'll be in the setup mode.

The next hurdle you're going to have to deal with is that you can only cycle through the menu if you have a second action button (ie, another "switch", which the menus refer to as "S2"). The problem is that if it's a DK CP, then you only have one action button (Jump).

However, this is still doable. I can see that you have a JAMMA harness in there, so I'm curious to see the control panel/wiring. We can definitely make this happen though if it's JAMMA. I am using standard DK wiring, so it was tricky for me, but I managed to rig up another button and I use it basically by hotwiring it to the pin on that PCB.

Thanks for the replies, really appreciate the feedback. There doesn't seem to be any dipswitches on the board, just that VGA input (I think thats what that is) The black box seems to be the power box. The only numbered items on the board connect to the wires, so I think maybe I have to use some kind of software. How do I use a JAMMA and what is that?

Attached is the section where the dipswitches are. It's the little blue box. #4 is at the top in this pic. Give it a shot.  :)
