Title: Hitbox.tv Support in Active Streamers List
Post by: WCopeland on August 06, 2014, 03:11:04 pm
I wanted to go ahead and post this for visibility now that Twitch is enforcing stricter rules concerning audio in streams.

Is there any way to add Hitbox.tv streamers to the Active Streamers list at the top of the page?  There are several advantages of moving my content from Twitch to Hitbox that are making me seriously consider it:

- No fear of muted recordings due to music (in-game or otherwise)
- No 30 second delay
- No problems with mobile because it's pure HTML5
- Being able to run polls and have sticky messages in chat

Edit: Here is a URL to the Hitbox API guide: http://developers.hitbox.tv/ (http://developers.hitbox.tv/)

It seems pretty easy to sign up and use and has OBS and Xsplit support as well as a couple others that I know Twitch stopped supporting. This latest move to not allowing you to keep broadcasts "forever" without highlighting into 2 hour chunks and blocking the audio means its time for a change. I read the hitbox manifesto so-to-speak and they look to be pretty good.

Don't forget to consider UStream as well. I enjoyed my short stint with them when Twitch didnt work for my Mac.

I am working on a script for this but integrating it into the existing Twitch script is tricky.

If you've switched to Hitbox, post your channel URL in the List of Classic Arcade Streamers thread.

Keep in mind that currently only Twitch streams are accepted for the DKO's.

You da man Jeff

I hope I'm not going too far out on a limb here, but if you need any scripting/coding help pls let me know. I'm going to go over and post the url for my Hitbox stream now.

I'm sure that the DKO organizers are aware, but it would be important to note it isn't advised to play music during play as Twitch will likely mute a huge majority of it in the archive, and I don't think that will help much verifying scores. I have heard of instances where people singing on stream has tripped up the music detection program they use, and muted entire 30 minute blocks. I can't verify this, but I think this may have even happened to Allen. So, no music, no singing, no fun whatsoever on the DKO streams. Thanks.

Ha.  Should that be the new ad copy for the next DKO?  "No music.  No singing.  No fun."  Sounds like a blast!   Kappa

Well hitbox supports a lotta stuff that Twitch stopped so it may work fine for a mac.

We need to get with Eric and John and work on allowing Hitbox as a stream source as well. The more I read about whats going down with twitch the worse it gets.

I'm loving the hitbox. I like that I can stream with visibility off and still capture recordings.

Problem: I set a new PB last night, edited a video of it but when I view it, just says "Initializing". The video never plays.

Here are 2 attempts at the video

Video editing seems to need some work. I tried to make a highlight 3 times yesterday and it just says "processing" for me.

Uggz...ok. Mine seem to have made it through the "processing" stage. Just can't view them.  FailFish

Sucks, I'm really liking the incognito streaming.

Same here.  I tried both Chrome and Internet Explorer, but couldn't get either video to play.

I also disabled AdBlock to determine if that extension is the culprit.  Apparently it is not.  The only difference is that a 30 second ad appears before the "initializing marathon" begins.

I'll look through the HitBox support pages (if they exist) and report anything that might be helpful.

Tried to download = 403 error. Tried to push to youtube, we'll see if that works.

Also the video seems to have echo-y/double audio but that might be a problem on my side with obs.

hitbox is still "beta" so I can't get too upset with them.

Update: Edited my clip a 3rd time and it finally worked.
