The rankings will be updated periodically throughout the duration of the contest.

IMPORTANT: The rules for the contest are laid out below. Please read through all of the rules carefully. Due to the anticipated large number of score submissions, John and Eric have the right to immediately reject any score submission if these rules are not followed as outlined below. ***NO EXCEPTIONS***

Registration
- Any contestant may register for this contest, it is open to any person on this planet that plays Donkey Kong no matter what your skill level may be!!!
- All registrations must be received prior to the start time of the competition.
- In order to register, simply click on the following link and submit your information: https://donkeykongforum.net/tournaments/registration.php (https://donkeykongforum.net/tournaments/registration.php)

Stream Setup
- All contestants are required to stream their games on twitch.tv or Justin.tv. (NO EXCEPTIONS FOR ANY REASON).
- Contestants are solely responsible for setting up their stream.  Eric Tessler and John Salter will not be involved in any contestant’s stream setup for any reason.
- Contestants may enlist the help of anyone except Eric Tessler and John Salter to setup their stream.
- Contestant’s stream quality must be sharp enough to read the level and score at a glance (as well as the rest of the game play).  If there is ANY question of score and level due to bad quality stream, that submission will be rejected, instantly, with no exceptions. We suggest that you test your streams and check them from time to time to make sure they are working correctly.
- Streams which are partial, glitchy, edited or manipulated in any way will be rejected.
- Streams must be available for review on the contestants registered twitch.tv channel.  If for ANY reason the stream is not available for review on the contestant’s registered twitch.tv channel, the submission will be rejected.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

Game Submissions
- In order to submit a score, simply click on the following link: https://donkeykongforum.net/tournaments/scoresubmission.php (https://donkeykongforum.net/tournaments/scoresubmission.php)
- Contestant is solely responsible for submitting their own scores.
- DK arcade or DK MAME (US set 1) can both be used for score submissions (must use TG settings of 3 lives and a bonus life at 7000 points).
- Score submissions can be for any non-zero score.
- At the start of EACH new stream, contestant must state their full name (you no longer have to state your name before every single game).
- The entire game must be played only by the registered contestant who is identified at the beginning of the game.
- Bounties
   * Contestant is solely responsible for specifying which bounty they want to claim when they submit a score.
   * A contestant can only be paid for a maximum of 1 bounty for any one contest.
   * If a submitted game qualifies for more than 1 bounty, the contestant is solely responsible for specifying which bounty they are claiming and they can only claim a single bounty (and the refs will consider only the specified bounty for the score submission). For example, if I have a game where I am the first to a million points and a kill screen, I claim the million point bounty and the kill screen bounty remains open for other contestants to claim.
   * If a contestant tries to claim a bounty however is not awarded that bounty for some reason (i.e., they were incorrect about the bounty or another contestant's score submission invalidates their bounty claim), the contestant may try to claim another bounty on one of their next score submissions.
   * Bounties are considered in the order in which the score submissions are received.
   * Please remember that the bounty system was introduced for fun and to spread around some extra money to the contestants. Any disputes over the bounties will be settled accordingly by Eric/John.
- If any player is at Eric's or John’s house on the day of the contest, they may use our DK arcade machine for the tournament and we will act as a referee (as such, they do not need to submit their score via email, but the game will still be broadcasted on twitch.tv for everyone to see).
- Eric and John will be validating all scores and reserve the right to reject any score for any reason.
- Games started before the official contest start time (no matter how close to the official contest start time) will not be eligible.
- Games started after the official contest end time (no matter how close to the official contest end time) will not be eligible.
- Last game can be started any time before the official contest end time (no matter how close to the official contest end time).
- Scores can be submitted up until 4 hours past the official contest end time.

DK Arcade World Record Pot Rules
- At the end of the tournament, the pot goes to the contestant who beats the current WR score (must be obtained on an arcade machine; MAME does not count).
- If there are multiple contestants who beat the WR score within the same tournament, the pot goes to the contestant with the highest score.
- The contestant who wins the pot cannot collect any other prize money for the same tournament (top player positions or bounties).
- If nobody wins the pot, the pot carries over into the next tournament and increases by $100.
- Any contestant, including the current WR holder, is eligible to win the pot.
- The pot will initially start at $250 and will increase by $100 for each tournament where the pot is not collected. These donations are by Eric Tessler.
- Any contestant who wishes to donate more money to the pot, please contact Eric Tessler.

Prize Payouts
- Prize money will be issued in the exact amount stated, ONLY to the registered contestant.
- Prize money will be sent via PayPal or sent via U.S. post in the form of a registered money order, or check ONLY to the registered contestant.
- If the contestant rejects the prize acceptance guidelines, listed above, or chooses not to accept the prize, that money will be added to the next contest purse.
- Once a contestant wins prize money in a tournament (any type of prize money excluding bounties), they cannot win any more prize money for the following 2 tournaments (after the next 2 tournaments, that player will once again be allowed to win some prize money). This will allow different people to have a chance at winning some prize money.
   - NOTE: The following players cannot win any prize money for this contest (however they are still eligible to win bounties):
      - Dave McCrary
      - Robbie Lakeman
      - Steve Wiltshire
      - Mike Groesbeck
      - Timothy Sczerby

Clarifications
- Kill screen: In order to qualify for a kill screen on 22-1, we must be able to see the jump man death that is caused by the kill screen itself (dying any other way will not count).

Closing Remarks
- Please remember, at the end of the day, this is for fun and to keep the community together.  Anyone who does not follow the rules, cheats, etc, will be removed from the contest, and possibly banded from all future contests.
- These guidelines can be changed at any time because Eric and John are in charge and are on a total power trip.
- Get practicing and good luck to all contestants

But I had a question as to why the places paid out are just the top 3 instead of 5 again like the first one?  Just kind of wondering!  :-)

Just thought I would toss this out there:  If the new format of the KO will be a bracketed style tournament, with seeds...and the seeds will be based on the DKO tourneys...and people that don't play in the DKOs will be placed at the bottom of the bracket seeds...granted only 1 DKO has been completed thus far...but it is looking like as of now you could potentially be at a disadvantage to do well in these DKOs...based on that fact that players like Hank/Dean/Jeff W./Vincent haven't played and could be seeded at the bottom...the number 1 (currently Dave) seed from the DKOs could be playing seed 30, Hank Chien = )

LOL.  Definitely a good thought.

I haven't asked Richie about how the seeding will be determined.  I'm guessing it will be some combination of a scoreboard (TG, DKF, etc.) and the online tournaments.  For KO1 (before Jourdan/RK were involved with TG), seeding was based on witnessed/live scores.  I believe RK is supportive of the current TG ownership, so those scores may continue to count.  A related but separate issue is RK will probably continue to favor arcade scores over MAME scores in which case players like Dean will be seeded lower than their true skill level.  In a "high score wins all" format, this was less of an issue-- as long as you were in the top 12, all players were on even ground.

Unrelated thought: If you do face someone tough early and get knocked out, it's not necessarily a disadvantage if those players are eligible to enter the wildcard tournament as a few have suggested here.

Obviously in 1 game anything can happen.  Just look at this year's NH tournament-- so many upsets already.  Although regular DK is less random than NH, it's still pretty random.

P.S.  Vincent and I plan on duking it out this weekend.  Jeff and Dean have participated before but I don't know what their plans are this year.  But you're correct, players like Wiebe will probably never play in an online tournament.

Yer buddy, it will be my first time participating in an Online Donkey Kong tournament. The bounty for WR is now at 1k, will you aim for it, Hank? I might try for it. But even if it's 1k, 10k or 1m bounty for the WR, I don't care. Because money will go. Money will always go. But the Donkey Title, will stay. Bring it on, b*tch!

Going for the WR is a little bit of an "all or nothing" approach.  I got a little bit burned at KO3 by going semi-all out for too much of the weekend.  If I get a good game early, I may try for it.  I might be going to the Iron Sheik's place this weekend though, so I'm not sure how much time I"ll have.

Edit: oops pulled a  <Tim>

I'm not eligible for prize money this weekend, but I'll still play a few games just for fun and seeing where I end up.

About seeding for experienced players that don't play in the open, I didn't know they were going to be placed at the end, did someone say that? I would think qualifying through an open should be mandatory then.

I hope everyone is crushing it. I dropped my first quarter of the tourney last night and beat my personal best. Previous was 364k new pb 484,500. Thanks to Ethan and Tony for motivating me from the start. I made it my goal to submit a new pb score for the tourney, mission accomplished! Score submitted. New goals planned...

581,400!  1st man bounty up to 11-6!  I'm not sure how many boards that is!  I'm submitting a inp and wlf file since my stream cut out on me!  I hope this is ok if I submit the inp and wlf files here for my score!  I couldn't find the email to send this too!  I'm hoping its ok here to do!  :-).  Also for this submission if its ok, I want my name for the $20 for most improved for the 1st Open too from Nick Sheils!  :-).

For Nick Sheils' bounty ($20 for the player who has the largest score increase from the first DK tourney of 2014; any ties will go to the first player to claim the bounty)
Im guessing you have to have actually submitted something for the first tourney?

congrats to Copeland! It looks like a few of us have beat our PB in DKO2. Will we have to submit our score twice? Once for the tourney and once for the overall DK high score list or will it be taken care of automatically?  <Mruczek>

Yeah the idea was to try and keep people playing in the dko events, so a bounty that anyone can have a chance at was the goal

It looks like a few of us have beat our PB in DKO2. Will we have to submit our score twice? Once for the tourney and once for the overall DK high score list or will it be taken care of automatically?  <Mruczek>

If you get a new PB in the tournament, you must submit it to the HSL separately. It's not done automatically, because not everyone will necessarily want to submit the score for whatever reason, so you have to let the HSL maintainers know that you do indeed want it on there.

The aggregate scoreboard was programmed to be the rankings of everyone's best DKO score.  The sum of the scores is somewhat meaningless because everyone will participate in a different # of DKO's.  It would be like ranking the DKO's by the sum of all your scores for the weekend.  Some people may only get 1 game, some people may play all weekend.  Also the seeding for KO4 is likely to be based on your best performance, not the sum.

Aggregate to me means "combined."  I guess combined scoreboard could have either meaning too.  If someone can suggest a better word to convey the intended meaning, I'll change it.  Best?  Max?  I don't know.

I'm with Hank. I wasn't sure how that aspect was going to work, but "aggregate" is a very loosely-defined word. In this case I guess it's "the combination of everybody's best scores." I think this is the only sensible way to do it. Doing some sort of best-score average thing opens up a lot of potential problems and questions of fairness.

That is an excellent clip Hank!

I managed to finish strong, though I will likely go down as the whiniest winner in DKOpen history, as I was more focused on complaining about No Hammer and my complete brain fart on level 20-6 than celebrating my tournament victory.

I desperately wanted that first man million -- so much so, I suddenly forgot how to play, and spun out of control.

Apologies again.  I don't think I said anything too harsh (except everyone now knows just exactly how I feel about No Hammer), though it was no way to celebrate another amazing DKopen weekend.

Thank you to the organizers and all who competed.

Chris is correct. If anyone has achieved a new PB during the tourney PLEASE submit it to the HSL in the Score Submissions (https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=364.0) thread.

"Cumulative" is similar to "aggregate" in that it suffers from ambiguity.

How about a generic phrase like "Overall Ranking" (or just "Overall") ?
