Welcome.  Your average suggests that the springboard is the root of trouble?  If so, there are lots of folks on here that can assist.  <> <Allen>

Welcome to the forums! As a heads up, both marky_d and kalel9999999 know tons about Jr, there are a ton of other members here who also play Jr, but those guys are ranked 1 and 2 respectively on Jr. Arcade

Nice to have you here. I connected with you on youtube as well. I just got a Junior pcb so that is pretty much what I will be playing for awhile.

Hey there,

Great to see Junior getting some love lately. There's some great tips/videos and helpful guys over here.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I have tried to set up youtube to do longer than 15 mins vids and I verified it. But it seems when I direct upload from Justin.tv it breaks it up anyway. I will maybe try to manually load the videos from my desktop to youtube to see if you can get longer ones. I'll cast today in the late afternoon.

I use OBS, and then have it create a file on my computer, and then I use that file to upload. I also use Movie Maker if I use my camcorder to put the files together and save in 1080 HD. I stream at the same time, it is a back up to protect against glitching twitch if that occurs.

Thanks kalel I'll PM you this weekend struggling on chains for the most part and spring board but I've been doing some studying and its helping. I put up two of my best games back to back yesterday with horrible deaths in both especially my last on my 180K game. The video was too long to post to darn youtube. So I'll be casting this morning and afternoon for a bit and stop between each game. I just use a older Pro 9000 webcam so I don't have capture software for my arcade cab.

Just tried to stream on Justin.TV and it starts then kicks me right off line, frustrating as I'd like to keep consistently keep streaming. has this happened to anyone before. I'll try later on in the day.

By chains do you mean blue chains or the springboard? Between my youtube account and my highlights on my twitch account you have a lot of demonstration on how to do the birds on the springboard. Check them all out, and let me know if you have any questions. You can see these in my Ambitions thread, and Patterns thread. If you have not read through this thread then do so:

Thanks DKG...I just got my first 200K (no pressing all screaming through boards) first game in a long time like years and my 2nd ever. Its thanks to the videos on this forum.
I put the game on unlimited later in the night and the Levels on my cab go to 9 then the square is blank. I thought it was suppose to switch to letters. I don't know if its due to the save kit being on unlimited or if they go to blank for a few levels then turn in to letter if any of the KS folks know this I'd be interesting in learning the levels.
Thanks,
DKJR

No problem, congrats on the 200K! Yup, that is normal. The levels are 1 thru 9, then there are 7 blank levels, and then A - F, F-1 being the killscreen.

I would also add that watching Christer Kristensson's game may help a lot too. He basically just ran boards safely and it is a killscreen game. You can get his inp files from the Junior High Score List, and you can play it back in mame. Let me know if you need help at all.

Does anyone know how to get a hold of him?

It's also interesting to note that Junior (as does Popeye) cycles through the character tilemap for use as the level indicator. So if Junior didn't have the timer bug, it would have used what is seen here:

DK Genius thanks for the tip I downloaded WinRAR and Wolf mame 106 from the forum and watched some of Christer Kristenssong's gameplay I hope to I hope to put in some practice time Monday, I'll most likely cast that practice on twitch.tv and will try and post a shorter version of it for youtube. I will look into the recording software the OBS. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Spring boards have gotten a lot better with video study and game play. I feel much more comfortable and I know what to expect and how to get the super jump done correct around 90% of the time. I'm really struggling on the chains/key stage I'm consistently in the 140 now but still losing jr.s on lvl 2 3 or 4 or 5 chains my last 5 or 6 games I've only lost all my lives on that one board type. But hey it's progress. I dug out my x-arcade tank stick and got mame booted up and have save states set up for practice. Anyone have a opinion on if save states help or hurt ur game? I'm going to read the OBS streaming set up thread this weekend as that looks promising. If anyone has a beginners guide to blue chains/key stage let me know I don't care about fruit drops etc. I just need to reliably get past the boards to keep my games rolling. Thanks to everyone I'm enjoying the forum.

If you aren't concerned with points at all, it's a good idea to try and push the far left key up first, as it seems the snapjaws tend to congregate around that area toward the end of the screen and that can make it tricky to finish if that key is left for last. If you manage to get that key out of the way, smashing snapjaws with the right apple will make the screen that much easier to finish because they will respawn on the left side of the board. Learn where the safe spots between the birds are, and use them to wait and see what the snapjaws decide to do before making your move to push up keys. I think it is easier to wait in these spots with both hands on one chain because it "seems" that your vertical hitbox is slightly smaller. If you wait spread-eagle, it's easy to misjudge your position and accidentally get hit on his raised hand. The other thing you may notice is that when the snapjaws are at the top of the structure waiting to decide which chain to take down they will move at a slow or fast mode (sometimes they freeze). If you notice one go into fast mode, be careful, because they are probably going to make their decision faster to go down a chain. Hope this helps. Oh, and yeah save-states help, but be sure to play full games often to put everything you learn together.

yes at this point Im just getting frustrated as I have a great going then boom chain stage deaths after chain death wreck my good momentum I could care less about scoring on those boards just surviving would be great to keep my game going. Im very comfortable on vines and hideout. spring is good not great and chains is awful right now. Infact I feel like I was better at them a few weeks ago. LOL but so it goes. Thanks Mark. will look into OBS soon I want to get more of my mame stuff out there too

For me the key is having a general pattern or approach. For example, in my million game on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77OicfiR9i0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77OicfiR9i0)

I basically do what mark said, try to push that left key all the way up and ignore the left fruit. The reason why I try to do everything the same each time because it creates familiarity. I also put together some ideas for level three blue chains here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tokd_ye9_3w (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tokd_ye9_3w)

There are other patterns that can be used which I am working on now and will probably put together a level 4+ blue change video of different patterns - not all inclusive just ones I have seen. But if you stick to what I do on my million game that will be sufficient.

Use the lowest bird to test your height and hold on a chain with both hands and wait for your opportunity. Have you watched the Christer game yet?

Once again, find one approach and try to stick with it, push through the same openings in the birds, hit the birds on the right with fruit the same way, at the same time. Click through my game, watch the level 4 blue chains and then practice that pattern with save states over and over. Do the same thing every time. Even in my 1.27 game I did little variation to my mainline. I will be adding more for my 1.3+ attempts. But for now, one thing.

Just submitted my 279800 point Jr. game, I'd like to thanks marky_d and DKG for all there help and suggestions. I lost three lives on the chains. and lost the last life horribly by jumping to early to kill the problem spark on the hideout. It would of been a 300K game :'(. Thanks to all

I just had the game of my life I died on 12-4 I just pushed to hard trying to get to top the top in time. Grrrr.
I scored 300K on my last man lost every man on a chain stage. I put up 484,800. I just kept running it felt great, I wish I was streaming or recording. So my next goal is to download the streaming and saving software Corey and Mark told me about. Well I hope to have 500K by the end of summer. Thanks everyone, I will attach a pic I took of my cab it has a save kit on it. And I won't remove it so most likely if I put up a big score for submission it will need to be on MAME.
Cheers,
Tony

Been playing everyday and can't catch that fever I had a week ago or so.... 400ks I play one game or more a day to stay in the groove. my games have been 251k 279k 285k 179k and something else that can't be spoken of LOL. I have adopted Coreys pattern for the chains from the forum and it is really helped my game. I can't decide if running boards or pressing is better at the moment I only press on the hideout the left edge version nothing fancy. some times Ill press on the vines but usually chicken out after level 4 or 5. I only press on the right hand side I can't get the pressing on the left hand side on the snapjaws down I just die. Not really sure what the break down on the "real" point gain is for those boards vs. just running them, any input or suggestions to my game would be great. I'll try and cast some again soon.
Cheers

If you have actual footage, then I could give more details. I would recommend just playing safely. Keep risk low. Points don't matter if you die.

Ive been hitting the 200 with ease then it seems around 230K I fall apart. the pattern I got from you on the chains is awesome by the way. I've been trying to cast and twitch just keeps freezing on me like 10 mins in to game play very frustrating its done that a lot lately. I'll start up a cast when I'm at around 100k and post link to youtube. Im sure I can get a 20 min session in that why. Cheers

So I went to Des Monies, IA today its about a hour and half trip. They have a barcade called UP DOWN. The girl was going to visit her friend that just had a baby. I passed, I hade around 2 hours to play games. I had put up the high score there but it was horrible like 124K. I put my first and only token in at 1:47 and ended at 3:08.

Ended up being a half a million point player today. I scored 539K I lost track of what level I was on. But this score was thanks to lots of posted video and feed back from the Jr. community. I hope to Kill Screen by the end of the end we will see. Cheers guys just wanted to share my good day.

I just had the best game of my life and I was recording it via Justin.tv. I will be uploading it to youtube right now. I will also submit this score via the Jr. submission page. I took video of inside of cab and pulled out board. I also denoted time and date via my iphone lock screen. The reason I did that is so if my camera turned off I could prove it was me the whole time. And it did so I reshowed the time and date on my I phone and  showed my face. I'm not sure if Justin.tv to youtube is accepted but I wanted to see if it was and none the less maybe some of the pro guys could give me some pointer. Thanks again to all here at the Forum.
Cheers,
Tony

So I'm trying to get OBS going and I'm casting now but I want to play the mame window fairly large. When I right click in the OBS window and select fit to screen nothing happens. I've attached a photo to show you what I'm talking about. Then step 2 is figuring out how to save these to hard drive if I like. Then step 3 is using webcam with OBS to do my arcade cab. I'd like to get away from justin.tv. But one step at a time please. Thanks

Maybe it's the aspect ratio?

I'm not an OBS expert, but "fit to screen" won't have any noticeable effect if your MAME window already fills one dimension of the screen (in this case, vertical).  Increasing the size horizontally would involve changing the aspect ratio, and I don't think you want to do that.  For the record, it looks pretty good as is.

Step 2:  Go to "Settings... => Broadcast Settings" and make sure the "Save to file:" box is checked.  Specify an output file in the "File path:" field below (or use the "Browse..." button).  You can also optionally check the "Keep recording if live stream stops:" box.

Step 3:  I don't own a webcam, so I'll defer to someone who does.

You definitely want to get away from Justin TV.  They've recently removed the highlight feature (temporarily, or so they say), and they no longer support inbox messaging.  If you've selected the "Automatically archive my broadcasts" option in "General Video Settings:", your videos will only be saved for 2 days (unless you purchase a premium plan).  No thanks.

MAME is fine but the OBS is cut off. I just want that to fit in the box while still having a rather large window to play the game in.
Thanks

I have everything on OBS working 100% now. My question to other casters is about mame window size. I took a screen shot of my laptop it's a 17" and I hoping to play on a much larger window. But if I enlarge mame window it gets cut off on OBS then you can't see all of play field on twitch. Any help would be great. Next task is webcam and OBS to cast my arcade cab on twitch.

I'm working on my pressing now after kill screen. I've been on pace my last games And my pressing isn't getting me killed. My goal is a million by the end of summer. I'll keep you updated with scores but I know I can do it if all falls into place. I won't submit another score unless it's over a million. Then it's on to DK kill screen!

I got my first 12K 1-1 Jungle Board yesterday got it recorded on twitch so I thought I would post it. I've made I've kind of made this thread as a update to my Jr. play. I've started my march to a million points now! I've been working on my jungle pressing on the right and left side to gain more 300s. I have mocked up a million point pace chart. I have no clue if its right but I used a video off YouTube and recorded the persons pace and adjusted the numbers to 1 million exactly. But if anyone has a point pace chart that you know is right you can shoot it my way. Thanks for all the support in my Killscreen quest now to million. Then I'll give DK a try.......I'm not great at that damn game 200K player.

Wow I'm really sorry about that man.  Go test the voltages on that switching power supply, espessially the 5v.  If it is too high, or too low, the game will not run.  That means that you need a new power supply.  Make sure the tube on the back of the monitor is glowing red as well.  If it is, then you won't be in much trouble.  Since your marquee is working, your 100v transformer is likely to be good, as well as the monitor.  Test those voltages on the edge connector of your DKJR PCB.  http://www.docstoc.com/docs/45929296/NINTENDO-PINOUT (http://www.docstoc.com/docs/45929296/NINTENDO-PINOUT)
That link should help with the edge connector pinout, which you should test your 5v from.  Report back your findings.

Well there's no neck glow so I'm guess the monitor is toast. But I'll check voltages in the monitor molex and in your link. However the only shining light is I'm picking up a working DK on the 12th so I'll be able to flip flop parts to find trouble. My guess is monitor.

Well there's no neck glow so I'm guess the monitor is toast. But I'll check voltages in the monitor molex and in your link. However the only shining light is I'm picking up a working DK on the 12th so I'll be able to flip flop parts to find trouble. My guess is monitor.
Yup its probably the monitor.  I recommend checking the fuses across the chassis.  I fixed my monitor by replacing a simple fuse in my monitor.  Your problem is most definitely the monitor based on your problems. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w7/modessitt/SanyoBoardControls.jpg (http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w7/modessitt/SanyoBoardControls.jpg)
Check f301 and f302 for failure.  In my case, f301 was dead, causing the whole game to appear to be lifeless.  Check the fuses using the continuity setting on your multimeter, and take them out of the PCB.  That way, the circuit isn't bleeding out any bad signals to your meter.  Good luck my friend.  If those fuses are good, your flyback and/or HOT are likely to be dead.

thanks for all the help tilt where would I get those fuses online I assume? If its a hot or flyback that's our of my league but I got a two people in the area who have business that work on games. I've had one guy do a cap kit so I'm assuming he could put a new fly or HOT on.
Cheers I'll keep you updated. I get that DK on Sat. and I can swap monitors. I'm assuming that's the issue.

No problem.  You can get those fuses at radio shack.  The .3a fuse might actually be .315, but it will still work.  Good luck.

Fuses have no polarity, so it doesn't matter what wire is on what end.

Got my working DK home well atleast when I left. Now I get this purple screen. I check all connection. My other guess is try a new wire harness or pull and re seat all roms. Any help

man you just have no luck with these things.  Anyways, reseat the monitor cable on the PCB.  If the sound works, that is a good sign.  It means that its most likely a unplugged connector.  Re seating the eproms may help, but do it carefully.  The pins are easily damaged and CAN break off.  Use this video to help you do so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkSCh53fO6Y (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkSCh53fO6Y) .  Good luck and keep me posted.

EDIT: Also, make sure all of the connections of the monitor itself are plugged in.  If one of the plugs going to the invertor board are unplugged, the screen will not work.  Be careful when poking around back there, and make sure the power is turned off and unplugged on the game.

Checked all connectors I think boards dead from bouncing around doesn't even play dead gonna hook Jr. Up tomorrow and see what I get I figure I'll be able to trouble shoot from all the parts between the two cans my guess is I need monitor work like fly back or HOT. As for DK I'm guess board is totally dead. It had audio issues and the trip killed that bitch. So I'll send it off if Jr. works I'll have them back and bullet proofed this fall. Until then it's MAME

yeah at this point I would try the JR board.  Also reseat the eproms for good measure.  It does fix stuff sometimes.

Cool! So that means both of your PCBs work, which is great!  You can fix the other monitor at some point by simply getting a new chassis for it.  Weird though.  How did the game work before you left without the rgb board?

Some thing are better left in explained I'll get a RGB board and cable. Then you think it's chassis since no neck glow?

ah okay.  When you say RGB board, you mean this: http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/7410/1001820.png (http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/7410/1001820.png) board right?  That is actually called the inverter board, and that is the name it is generally called.  If that is the board you removed, you dont actually need it.  In older nintendo games, the signal is already inverted, so a board that does the inverting isnt even necessary.  To bypass this board completely, follow the attached diagram.  This makes it so the chassis is getting direct video from the game board since the inverter board isn't necessary in this case.  Of course, your chassis still has problems even after fixing this.  The solution to this problem is to either fix it yourself, or buy a whole new chassis.  I would try replacing the fuses that I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, if you haven't already done so.  After doing that, if it still doesn't work, you are probably SOL.  It's just way too much work to do on your own, if you aren't an electrical engineer.  At that point, I would either send it to somebody on KLOV to be repaired, or just buy a whole new chassis.  That is all of the outcomes I can think of to get your game working again.  Good luck and keep me posted.

hey looking good.  By the way, was it very hard to remove the monitor from your DK cab?  I'm about to cap my sanyo monitor and I've never removed one from a nintendo game.

It's not hard to get the monitor out of the cab.

It's everything after that's hard.

Yeah I understand that its quite difficult to get the chassis board out of its harness.  Have you done a cap kit on the EZ20 by any chance?  Any tips?  I'm good with electronics, so i'm not really worried about the cap kit itself, i was just wondering if you have any advice.

Pulling it is easy. I'm lost after that I send all my work out. Now So I'm trying to dial I think it's too dark as the golds are really deep golds.

2. The blues all have red shadows on the bottom right around the lettering and blue snap jaws. 3. It's seems a little blurry around edges of characters fast moving that is. And lastly the audio. Which was fine before with old monitor no there's a super faint jumping noise when your not jumping it's like a Eco. Very strange. I do have the volume up high. (Which I want to lower). Any help would be amazing . I'm stumped on adjustments and at this point everything I do starts to look the same. I just want the sharpness fixed and the red hues gone and I can live with minor audio annoyingness

Yeah my DK JR has the slight jumping sound.  It's mainly do to the old audio board in the monitor needing to be capped.  It's not really a big deal, but I'm personally capping my audio board when I cap my monitor. In terms of your color problems,  I would try adjusting the brightness and focus adjustments to try to brighten up your colors a bit. These adjustments are located on the flyback which is under the flyback cage.  When removing the flyback cage, be sure the power is turned off.  You can make adjustments to it while the monitor is turned on with a long flat head screwdriver.  If the adjustments still aren't good, it's just old caps, and they need replacing.

I looked last night and I let it warm up for awhile it needs to be deguassed on upper left for one but the black has a lot of red in it so I'll dial that back 1st. Then I'll do brightness. After that I'll hit up focus I guess. I would think those three adjustment in the 3 different areas would be good. There is color on the neck right? I've never messed with that. Nor do I think I need to. Is focus and brightness on flyback or is it contrast. I only thought brightness was on main board?  Thanks for all you help

There are actually 3 brightness settings in total.  One on the actual board, one on the adjustment board, and of on the flyback.  The one on the flyback allows for the most dramatic adjustments.  There is only one focus adjustment, which is on the flyback.

Two quarters....as Todd Rogders says I'm an arcade owners worst nightmare. I'm tiring to upload shots of the barcade and screen shots but from phone says file to large. So I'll try PC later
