Title: Will be going for the DK3 Japan Marathon record tomorrow
Post by: homerwannabee on February 09, 2014, 07:27:55 pm
My channel is DK3champ on Justin.tv

I'll start at 7:30 Pacific 10:30 Eastern time A.M.

It's going to be a long game about 8 or 9 hours.  :)

I already have the record but it a tad bit low for my taste.

Edit:  I fixed my sound issues, and it sounds much better.

Thanks to all who came by to watch.  Came up short with a 9,139,300 score.   I did have a crazy long last man, and a crazy long first man though.  When I was finished I saw that I had 12 viewers.  I think that maybe a record! Kreygasm

I watched for a big chunk of it.

I don't know how one goes about getting l337 Lounge involved in stuff, but DK3 is actually super-perfect for that show. The game is fast-paced, easy to understand, and expert play looks impressive (a lot more impressive-looking than DK or Junior, which are mostly happening "beneath the surface").

I think you should hold out to make another attempt and see if you can get l337 Lounge involved! PSP has a relationship with Jace Hall, and you have a good relationship with PSP, so maybe he could help?

I watched the last half hour

Well done George, very cool to see a master at work on a game that doesn't seem to get a great deal of attention. If I had more room I wouldn't mind a nice DK3.

Good job!

Very nice. For a gamer to get more points on one of these classic arcade games means a tremendous increase in skill.  <Walter> Others will do or say whatever to make people think they are the best.  <Billy> Great score!

Thanks for watching, and thanks for everyone who gave me props, and all the kind words.  I tried the lounge 1337 thing, and I didn't know how to message them.  Also I will be taking a little break from the Internet for the most part in couple of days anyways.

Well I am going to do this one more time tomorrow, but this time I am going for my  Donkey Kong 3 Twin Galaxies 5 man tournament settings record on MAME(American version of course).  Same time at 7:30 A.M.  5 man of course is a much shorter game.  More like an hour and 15 minutes to get the record.  So it's no big deal if I fail because I will get a few tries to get this right tomorrow.  If for some reason I break the record right off the bat I guess I play some DK Junior for a little bit.

This will be the last streaming event I do for awhile, so be there or be square. 8)

Is this the 1,403,600 score?

OK, in a few minutes I'm starting.  It'll probably be months before I stream again. :)

Well today was a pretty successful day of DK3.  I broke two of my DK3 records.

I got a new 5 man TGTS MAME record of 1,513,000.
I got what I think is a world record for hardest marathon settings with a score of 2,407,300.

While hardest settings may seem like a low score I suggest anyone to play the game on that setting.  I think some people would find getting a million on Donkey Kong Junior easier than getting a million on Donkey Kong 3 hardest settings.

Well, done George! Did you happen to save a Justin.tv archive of them?

How do you do that Mitch?  It's disappointing that for whatever reason it's not letting me highlight the video.

It's disappointing that for whatever reason it's not letting me highlight the video.

Justin TV has temporarily removed the option of highlighting past broadcasts.

The announcement can be found here:

JTV Highlight Option Temporarily Removed (http://blog.justin.tv/2014/01/28/highlight-option-temporarily-removed/)

As an alternative (for now), they have introduced an "Upload to YouTube" feature.

Well that video will go into the dust bin because the video is too long for Youtube.  That kind of sucks.  Good think I saved the games on my computer though.  If anyone want to save my video they are more than welcome to.

As a side note this will be my last post here for awhile.  I am taking a break from the Internet, and this could be anywhere from 2 to 6 months.

If you still have the INPs from these games you should post them to the forums. I'll see about saving the clips from Justin.tv.

Hey Jeremy,

I found this page, although I haven't actually used it yet:

Justin TV Video Downloader (http://bashtech.net/twitch/download.php)

I'll admit to being frightened by the "Index your archive" feature.

What's the worst thing that could happen?  I'd rather not find out.   :o

Hey Scott,

I just took a look at that downloader. It appears to do the same thing that TwitchTools (http://www.twitchtools.com/) does. Twitch/Justin both break up streams into 30-minute FLV chunks and I think TwitchTools handles this better. It actually gives you the links to each chunk but it looks like the Justin downloader only gives you first 30-minute chunk...you have to figure out the URLs for remaining chunks on your own.

You can actually download Justin videos using TwitchTools. You just need to replace "justin" in the URL with "twitch." For example, I downloaded George's recent broadcast by changing "www.justin.tv/dk3champ/b/503031559" to "www.twitch.tv/dk3champ/b/503031559."

With all that said, there doesn't seem to be any audio in FLV files I downloaded from either site and I'm not sure what to do about that.

Yeah, I like the Twitch Tools (http://www.twitchtools.com/video-download.php) page.  I've used it a few times to preserve games, where I was concerned they might disappear.  I tried (and failed) to save a Justin video only once.  The URL generated an error because I didn't swap out the domain names.  Good to know.

As for the audio, I've never had any problems so I don't know what to make of it either.  Uninstalled codec, perhaps?

Yeah, that was close enough. Apparently there's a bug when VLC tries to play an FLV video with SPX audio. But the good news is the audio is there.  ;D

Nice.  For the record, I just downloaded parts 1-2 and experienced the same issue.
