Title: "Save Forever"
Post by: ChrisP on July 17, 2013, 05:38:53 pm
A suggestion: if you have a big score, a big milestone, a big moment of whatever kind... open the stream replay and hit "Save Forever."

It costs you nothing but about 3 seconds. Even if it doesn't mean much to you, some of us are historians and "information hoarders" and like to have these things available.

Brian Allen's kill screen, for example, the pinnacle of his CAG career, is gone now. (Why Brian??)

Mike Kasper's Junior WR, gone too. It sort of exists again on Ken's channel, but the quality is inferior to the original.

I can't make anybody do anything, but I'd like to see more of these historic-type moments preserved!

I got my Funspot replay with commentary saved.  I didnt know that it would have vanished if I didnt.  I enjoyed doing the commentary that was a lot of fun.

Related to this, Chris, you posted in the DK challenges thread a long time ago, this:

Quote
It would be extremely awesome if it were somehow possible to import threads from another forum into this one.

To be able to grab all of those classic DK threads from CAG and TG would be so epic.

Since CAG is the same forum software, it might actually be technically possible to do some MySQL voodoo and "graft" threads from there into here, but (just to begin with) you'd have to have access to both databases. The process would probably be really tedious and time-consuming.

Links will have to do!

I think we should actually start looking into this more seriously and asking people for help doing this...even if that means talking to Richie and Pigger and seeing if they can send us the pertinent portions of code they have.

Honestly, I feel like CAG is endangered.

Like Mark is going to snap any day now and delete everything in a fit of rage, or force people to get permission to view the forum one post at a time pending his approval, or Lexmark will upload a database virus or something.

Mruczek already succumbed to CAGdc madness, who's next??

If Mikes game is really gone we can re broadcast it, I have it saved locally.

The Twitch video may be gone, but the INP can be obtained from MARP:

Brian Allen's 861,800 Killscreen Game (http://replay.marpirc.net/inp/c/6/e/bea99_dkong_861800_wolf106.zip)

I've already downloaded the zip file, in case he uploads a new personal best to replace it.

I agree completely.  I hope Dean either saves the INP or highlights the Twitch video from his recent 1.2 Million attempt (the one that ended with 2 deaths on the Level 16-2 conveyors).  I'll be disappointed if it vanishes before I'm able to compile the game summary.   :(

I completely forgot to save my 1M game on Twitch...just yesterday I went into my account and looked for it...oddly enough it has some of my streams from back in Janurary still there (no idea why), but I couldn't find my 1M game from 6/21.

I have the camcorder tape saved on my PC (a copy on each hard drive), and burned to DVD.  Also Stephen Boyer has a copy...I wonder if they keep those or archive them or what...

The Twitch video may be gone, but the INP can be obtained from MARP:

The .inp file does not include the screaming or the instant messaging or the commentary.

It's not so much the gameplay I wanted saved!
