Title: Highest non kill screen player
Post by: Bliss1083 on May 01, 2013, 11:03:51 pm
Kind of wondering the highest score achieved by a player that has never gotten a kill screen. Now this doesn't refer to the highest non kill screen score but to only the players who have never achieved a kill screen.  Now kill screen players can chime in about the highest score they achieved before their first kill screen but this is more to see how high people have got before they reached the promise land that is kill screen. I'm sure their are 900-1,000,000 point players to never reach it. Just curious to see where people are at.

One way of seeing this is to compare the Donkey Kong High Score List with Hank's Official Unofficial list of Killscreeners.

High Score List: https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=246.0 (https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=246.0)

Hank's List: http://www.classicarcadegaming.com/forums/index.php/topic,3694.0.html (http://www.classicarcadegaming.com/forums/index.php/topic,3694.0.html)

Those who are not on Hank's list but are high on the score list would fit your question. There may be some scores that are not on the high score list due to criteria issues.

My highest non-killscreen score, before my killscreen, was, 714,200. It was done on April 8th, 2013. My killscreen was three days later.

There will be very few players who have scores higher than 900K who have not killscreened the game. For a player to get 900K without killscreening the game would require the use of the bottom hammer. For a player to get more than 900K by level 19 or 20 they have to use the bottom hammer all the way. Any player who can do that or higher have most likely just ran the boards at some point just to get the killscreen. My killscreen was 893,800 and I used the top hammer all the way through the game.

That's a tricky category. Highest score, but never having a kill screen. My PB is not a killscreen, but I killscreened several times before, so doesn't count.

Daniel Dock got 923K last week (which wasn't a kill screen) and I believe he has never killscreened before. So, unless someone knows otherwise, I would say it was him.

That's weird, my highest non-killscreen game is also 923k.

But it is possible to get over 900k and not killscreen, with top hammer only.  My KS was 914,700, and I used top hammer through the whole game except 1-1.

What's Mitch's high score?  He's probably up there.

Not the answer to your question, but the question everyone else is answering: my highest non-killscreen score is 1,110,100.  I also had a major fail last year with 1,0xx,x00 at 1.15M pace.  My highest before killscreening was ~750K.

I had a great single hammer game going about two weeks ago at 50k levels and a start at 112k. I was wondering just based on the best non kill screen players wondering who might have made it to the last level and then died or something. Figured their must be some 900k players out there who might point press more then they do try and achieving the kill screen.

Just before my first kill screen I had a 783,600 game.

The funny thing is, since then, I've never had any game end in the 700s. Just that one.

If I go deep, it either ends somewhere in the 600s or I finish (850-890).

Which is nice, knowing that this is the rule, because now when I break 700K I just breathe a sigh of relief knowing that nothing can stop me.

Of course, that only applies to one-hammer runs and I'm not planning to do many of those anymore...

I need to do a straight run through with no pressing at all. I'm so caught up with having a 900k kill screen that I end up screwing myself. So my non kill screen score is 771,200. I should be able to tackle this soon but who knows. Btw I've heard that tg has changed the recording process for Dk anyone know the specifics? I didn't see it on their site.

The High Score List now shows verified killscreen players and their scores: https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=246.0 (https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=246.0) It is still under construction, I am sure that Ross and Scott have killscreens but I wanted the High Score List to remain an evidence based list. Still working on it.

Ross's first wildcard game was a kill screen.

An epic one at that!

I also noticed that Andrew Gardikis's and Chris Psaros's (mine) scores were not bolded. For the record, those were the games that got us onto Hank's killscreener list.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I apologize for the over-sight. The corrections will be made immediately! :)

Little by little, that list is becoming as good as the list that I was planning. You have independently arrived at many of the things that I wanted to see on such a list.

At this point, I don't know what's left. I'm trying to remember if there's anything I wanted to do that you're NOT doing.

I was thinking at one point of a "pace" column but I don't know how important that is, and it could be too much effort (and not enough info on the scores) for too little reward. Obviously it would be superfluous for any kill screen score (since the pace would be equal to the score), but if somebody's PB is not a kill screen, and they were playing at a high pace, it would be good to note it. Not critical though, obviously.

In the "Donkey Kong High Score List" (https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=246.msg4222#msg4222) thread, I suggested the possibility of having a "Notes" column for any additional details.  The pace could go there, ideally supplied by the player whenever posting a new personal best.

Thanks! I am sure your list would have been better. :) I like these ideas. Because if someone got say their first 500K game but were playing at a 1M pace, then we can see that not all 500K games are equal. Heck, at this point I can add it, and if people want to put things there then that is fine. As long as it does not clutter the list or look unprofessional. We may have people looking at our list, lurkers, new DK players, etc. We can see how it goes, I can't imagine their being a lot at first so it may not be much more time at all. If it is meaningful to people then I will spend the time doing it.
