Title: J.P. crushes the D2K world record! 507,900!
Post by: xelnia on October 01, 2017, 02:50:26 am: WFLI has taken his legendary 1-1 grind and applied it to possibly the grindiest of the DK games: D2K! With a score of 507,900 set on MAME, he is the new world record holder, and the first known player to score over 500k! His game ended on 11-6 (a spring board), and was on pace to score around 640,000 if he had made it to the end.

Interestingly, John McCurdy's previous WR game scored at almost exactly the same rate: John finished 10-5 with 447,700 and J. P. finished 10-5 with 448,400...only 700 points apart. For comparison, Ben Falls' 398k arcade record ends on 10-2...his score after 10-1 was 390,900. John's score at that point was 425,100 and J. P.'s was 428,400. This means the first D2K killscreen will probably be right around the "average" score I predicted (https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=464.0) a few years ago.

I considered training for the D2K record years ago, back when it was still around 400K, but thinking that it would be too much of a slog. 500K though? Man, that is gonna be a REAL bear!

I remember being in 1st on D2K during Yolympics 2015 and nervously watching wfli getting better and better at the game as the tourney went on. ;D Looks like he stuck with it and kept going good. Congrats, sir.

BTW look at those stats gents, 2nd life lost at 426k <gasp> Remember the official WR was less than 400k for a long time... JP is an animal!

edit: should also be worth noting that 12-6 (where this game ended) is the hardest spring stage to pass in terms of wiggle room! (only 1 frame less than 13-6, but still) It looked good live too. Looking forward to the killscreen run Kreygasm
