hi all - been lurking for a while and playing DK on a raspberry pi running retropi,using the lr-mame 2003 mame emulater. I seem to be maxing out at various stages on Level 5 or 6, mostly due to patience/timing errors (yes, watched the videos linked from other posts which are fantastic and in theory understand what to do), so am at the point where I need/want to be able to save and load level 4 or 5 barrels and elevator stages to practice. Does anyone here have experience with mame on retropie and is there a version that allows for saving levels? I've seen some info that says in theory it works but cannot get it to work for me. thanks!

It should have save states just like any other mame. Hit F7 and Shift-F7 to operate them. You may need to have a STA directory created if one doesnt exist.

thanks - looks like I have it working now. the buttons to save/load are a touch different but seems to be working now.
