The dates are set for the next DKO (which Eric will be announcing soon), but just out of curiosity, how do you like your DKOs?
Do you prefer a brief, high-pressure tourney with lots of last-quarter action, where short-term factors (mood, fatigue, bad randomness) have more of an impact?
Or do you like the longer, more leisurely tourneys where everybody can find plenty of time to play and the better players will almost always win?
I see strengths in both, but I gotta be honest, I think the short ones are a blast, and Wes's Wildcard Qualifier reminded me just how awesome and intense they are.
Vote what you feel. :)

Though I've directly benefited from the longer events, I prefer the weekend events. You don't have time to play at a pace you could "conceivably" finish a game at ... you have to perform on the spot. It also in my opinion encourages players to prepare more before the event itself so they can play at that pace target.
Other than that, it also gives the chance for dark horses to shine and have breakout games. My first million-point game was during a weekend event, and I believe without that event it would've happened much later. The longer an event is, the more it harms emerging players.

weekend. no question

It's not the length that matters, it's how you use it.
Also, see my signature, sir.

I voted "other".
My preference is a 4 day event, Thursday through Sunday, much like a golf tournament.
Including 2 weekdays along with a full weekend should accommodate most work schedules.

I'm going to agree with stella. Accommodating work schedules is a good point, but for me it's also about extra time to dust off cobwebs. I don't get many opportunities to play these days, and so I may only get to put in one game a night for online tournaments. Having the DKO active gives me incentive to play, and having the DKO active for many days gives me a night or two of preparation.

10 inches. Oh wait, I misread the question.

Some people work on the weekends... That's the only reason I don't like the weekend format. Otherwise I agree that the shorter competitions are more exciting.

I agree there. I voted for the weeklong ones for that reason, plus the fact that even though I work during the week, I typically have more free time then as I'm typically busy on weekends with Smash Bros. tournaments or other things.
