Title: DK Cab- Rolledcigs
Post by: Rolledcigs on May 12, 2015, 11:05:31 am
I got a DK cab today. It's a big steaming pile of awesome and I need to figure out how to use the dern'd thing. Here are some pictures. The monitor is flowing in the wind and it's brighter on the top than the bottom of the screen. The screen also needs adjusted to the left. Joystick is loose but plays- I have never played DJ jr so I die before I can use it too much. The image is the main issue. Oh, and the volume. This thing is louder than a marching band. Welp. Let me know what you guys think of the beast and any info on the workings would be amazing. Thank you.

Certificate of authenticity. That's all I got for now. Let me know if anything else is needed. I don't know how to open up the controller area.

Kreygasm.  To enter the CP, you must open the coin door, then reach up under the CP and release a pair of latches (one on either side); they latch the CP to the inside of the walls, and open upwards.

First step is to make sure your b+ voltage is 108v. You can see the raster lines on the monitor, it's too bright. There are 3 brightness controls to adjust. The easy ones to adjust are on the remote board of the chassis the other is marked screen on the flyback. Try that first but most likely a cap kit would do that wonders. If it's waving like a flag I would replace the b+ filter caps( they don't come with the cap kits need to buy them separately. Here is a great vid on how to adjust b+ voltages and color white balance for the Sanyo. Nice pick up, enjoy it!

Nice find!  I'm jealous that your cabinet has the certificate of authenticity....mine is MIA.

As for volume control, you can see in your picture of the back of the monitor, the grouping of 4 dials to the left of the monitor has one labeled volume control.

Does your speaker hum when no sound is being produced?  Mine does, and I noticed on the DK cab I was playing at the Arcade Expo that I attended in Banning, CA, a couple months back.  Not sure if this is true for all DK cabs, or if its something that needs fixing.

My cab originally had a loud hum. The audio board was recapped which helped but there's still a bit of a hum. I think that's just how they are.

Congrats! The cabinet itself appears to be in pretty good condition from the pictures. I'm really jealous because I love Jr. Regardless, I would recommend a mirror to help you with the monitor adjustment parts so you can see what is happening as you adjust things. A simple, cheap, handheld mirror means I can adjust it to my liking without walking back and forth and guessing, asking my wife to help, etc.

I adjusted the B+ and it did nothing. No voltage change, and no screen change. If anyone knows what that may mean please let me know. Also if anyone is interested in some kind of trade for my JR board let me know. I'm looking for a DK US1 board. I have a viable option for that but may as well see if anyone here is interested.

I posted this in the chitbox the other day but it might have been missed.  This is a great resource.

Using vr601 to adjust b+. Black lead from meter grounded to monitor frame. Red lead alligator clipped to "bj". Meter on volts dc. Did you get voltage to 108v? If you can get it to 108v then watch that buffet arcade vid to adjust the colors and white level.

Don't know if this is a good resource or not, but see Mike's Arcade is selling DK 2- board sets for $225.

https://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=DKBOARDSET (https://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=DKBOARDSET)

I remember buying a couple boards off Mike's Arcade back when I got my first cabinet (a bootleg Street Fighter 2 cab).  2 friends and I pooled our money to by the cab, and I think we got Mortal Kombat 1 and maybe some other junky game from Mike's Arcade, just cuz we were so excited to own our own cab.

Anyway, you may have a better deal in the works, but the price seems better than what DK 2-board sets go for on ebay.

I had the voltage meter set up and it read 80. Turned the B+ pot and nothing changed. The Voltage stayed the same as well as the screen quality.

How do you guys clean your cabs on the inside?

Sounds like you need a cap kit with the additional b+ filter caps, I would get a new b+ adjustment pot too. While your at it look for cracks on the white ceramic part of all of your adjustment pots on remote board and neck board. If you don't do your own cap kits contact "buffet" on klov forums. He readily accepts them for repair and will bulletproof it for you.

Are you talking about general cleaning?  I use a shop vac to blow/suck, on the wood parts, and compressed air closer in on the electronic components.

As to jumpan's comment, do you know what buffet charges for a complete overhaul?

Good job on the cap kit. Tedious process but so worth it. I'm not sure if it's the camera but the monitor looks like it needs a degaussing. High score and water color in center of screen. If you don't have a degaussing coil try the battery operated drill method.

Yeah it is discolored towards the middle of the screen. It definitely doesn't bother me and if it were perfect it would have been too much  Kreygasm Kreygasm Kreygasm Kreygasm at once. How do I do this drill method?

I bought an actual degaussing coil on eBay for around $30. I have never had to try using a drill but here is the first vid I found on it. The guy tapes magnets to the drill then just like using a degaussing coil starts with small circles very close to tube then gradually making bigger circles and pulls it further away from tube. Wow that sounds confusing not sure if explained very well..
