- Contestant’s stream quality must be sharp enough to read the level and score at a glance (as well as the rest of the game play).  If there is ANY question of score and level due to bad quality stream, that submission will be rejected, instantly, with no exceptions. Game Submissions
- In order to submit a score, simply click on the following link: http://www.donkeykonggenius.com/Tournaments/scoresubmission.php (http://www.donkeykonggenius.com/Tournaments/scoresubmission.php)
- Contestant is solely responsible for submitting their own scores.

- Since MAME .120 and .121 the dip switches for difficulty are accurate. In previous versions difficulty Medium and Hard were reversed. So in .106 when you play on Medium, you're actually playing on Hard. Therefore, if you want to play on the standard Medium Settings, make sure it is set to hard for these previous versions. If you are unclear about this at all, then please ask.
- Those playing Arcade will have all the dip switches set to off, except the 8th and final switch is set to on, in the up position.
- Score submissions can be for any non-zero score.

   * A contestant can only be paid for a maximum of 1 bounty for any one contest.
   * If a submitted game qualifies for more than 1 bounty, the contestant is solely responsible for specifying which bounty they are claiming and they can only claim a single bounty (and the refs will consider only the specified bounty for the score submission).
   * If a contestant tries to claim a bounty however is not awarded that bounty for some reason (i.e., they were incorrect about the bounty or another contestant's score submission invalidates their bounty claim), the contestant may try to claim another bounty on one of their next score submissions.
   * Bounties are considered in the order in which the score submissions are received.
   * Please remember that the bounty system was introduced for fun and to spread around some extra money to the contestants. Any disputes over the bounties will be settled accordingly by Corey/Ethan.
- Corey and Ethan will be validating all scores and reserve the right to reject any score for any reason.
- Games started before the official contest start time (no matter how close to the official contest start time) will not be eligible.
- Games started after the official contest end time (no matter how close to the official contest end time) will not be eligible.

- Scores can be submitted up until 8 hours past the official contest end time.

Prize Payouts- if applicable.
- Prize money will be issued in the exact amount stated, ONLY to the registered contestant.
- Prize money will be sent via PayPal or sent via U.S. post in the form of a registered money order, or check ONLY to the registered contestant.
- If the contestant rejects the prize acceptance guidelines, listed above, or chooses not to accept the prize, that prize will be dropped.

Maybe I'll buy a PCB so that I'll have more of an incentive to go through the Herculean labor of tilting my monitor sideways.

When I bought my Popeye board I didn't factor in the laziness I would have to overcome to actually play a session...

I have a real soft spot for this game as I've enjoyed too many hours of doubles.  I'm horrible at single player but I'm in.  Hopefully it'll make me play the game a bit and improve.

To show my love for the game I'm also pitching in the following to the prize pool:

1st - $40
2nd - $10
Mystery bounty (to be decided by the organizers) - $10

Let's flip some turtles!

Very cool!  What kind of scores do you guys get on doubles and have you ever tried NO POW doubles?

I played at work with a co-worker and our scores were above the current WR.  We played a super aggressive style where you need to rush up and take things out before they dropped off the top level.  By definition it doesn't use the POW at all unless you need a total bail out at some point.

A few years back when Ross and I set the NO POW score at the Seattle show we did it using this approach after just a few hours of me introducing him to the game play style.  The game becomes a thing of beauty when it's working well but it definitely is walking a tight rope.

You really should get back into playing doubles.  There may be a Mario Off 3 sometime this next year and I imagine it will be for doubles only.  We could use more teams to make this happen.  The current WR was beaten just recently at Free Play Florida and is now 1,186,090.  Did you guys have a higher score than that?

The highest we got was in the 1.4M range and we had to walk away from the machine to get back to work :)  We also played on hard because the timing of fireballs actually worked better for the approach we had.

I'd love to play doubles again but I have no one nearby to team up with.  This was at an old job 7-8 years ago and we both moved to different cities.  Has anyone been able to get an online Mame version playable?  A number of years ago I looked into that but it was crap at the time.

Look at the MB high score list on the DK forum and it will show you how to setup Mamehub and Kaillera.  It's not perfect but it works and sometimes real good.  You would certainly have to use Medium diff. though as that makes a difference.  Making the green fireballs come out quicker is totally different.

Cool.  I'll see if it can get it setup this weekend.  Do you know if we both need to be running the same version of mame?  If so what are you running?

It doesn't work this way with people using different versions of mame.  Mamehub has it's own built in version of mame.  Just download the installer and do a little homework on it to get it to work. (videos to watch) You will have to do a port forwarding with Mamehub to unblock your IP address.  Search youtube to figure out that part.  And I think mame 154 is used for mamehub currently.

Kaillera uses 119 and the netplay is built into this version of mame.  No port forwarding here!  There is also a 134 version of Kaillera but I have not used it.  It's the easier system to use but it has slow down in the higher levels of MB's.   :(

They do work and without them Steven and I never would have been able to practice up before the Free Play FL. event.  HOWEVER, these systems can be buggy once in a while.  It's just weird!  Some nights they work so damn good and other nights the game may not even start up in Mamehub.  Then we just use Kaillera that night.   ;D

Mamehub is the way to go. Like others have said it can have connection/desync problems but it's the best you're going to be able to get.

- Streams must have sound enabled. We must be able to hear the contestants voice and the game sounds.

Twitch muting copyrighted music could be a problem with this.

Possibly a problem. I assume that people will be in and out of our streams and will be able to hear all the sounds, etc. It is not muted during live play. I would encourage all of us to watch in on each others games.

We played a game of MB's on MAMEHub last night and it had a upgrade to the system as soon as we started it up.  The game started up and played really well until we got over 800K.  At that time, the game went into a major slow down for like 4 seconds and then sped up real fast for 4 seconds while trying to catch up, killing off Steven's last man.  I still had all 4 of my men.   <Allen>

Install this today and get started guys!!

Port Forwarding:  It just involves getting your IP address and adding it to your router software to make the MAMEHub port open.

Mario Bros (US, Unknown Rev). Just tried it myself, about a second delay between hitting jump and the actual animation. :(

It's not going to be the same as the arcade but it's good enough.  There is also a file you can edit to make the response quicker.  I'll have to give this to you later when I'm at my home computer.

Medium as it's mame 154 or so which has the dips fixed.  This video can help as well.   :D

The lag between your actions and them actually happening in game is noticeable but I think it's manageable.  I'm amazed that it works as well as it does.  I think for practicing doubles it more than does the job.

Believe me, there have been issues with it but it does work.  We have had games where we are at 500K and nobody has lost a man and then it does something called a lag delay and more or less our game is over.  It's something where one or both of us picks up this bug where you try to go left or right or jump and it does it 2 seconds later.  No way to play that way.

Do save states work?  The reality is that for practice what you'd really want to do is just run loops at max difficulty and not really worry about the final score or the early boards.  If you ran into a game killing bug ever third loop you would still get some good practice in fpr when you could play together in person.

I thought about save states and tried it but I think it only works on one PC and not both.  You can certainly try it and let us know what happens.

Steven should be able to take this down no problem.  He IS the WR holder.   It was more about me trying to redeem myself for playing so bad yesterday.   :)
