Title: Donkey Kong, Junior, and 3 - Related Games, Clones, and Bootlegs
Post by: xelnia on September 01, 2013, 03:40:36 am
Mitch suggested putting together a list of known Donkey Kong bootlegs, clones, etc. so here's what I've been able to drum up from MARP (http://replay.marpirc.net/) and Progetto EMMA (http://www.progettoemma.net/). Holy cats, Batman! I didn't think there'd be that many!

Basically, I was hoping that we could get a list put up with all different variations and then we could eventually flesh out some short descriptions of each of the bootlegs on how they are different from the main game. Nothing more than a few sentences each at most. Hopefully we have people here on DKF that can help fill in the data for each, or else play versions we know little about in order to get this data.

Thanks for posting the list, Jeremy!

I was going to add a couple of columns to that table that indicated whether each version has a killscreen and in what manner the boards progress...but there wasn't room.  8)

There would be another Junior variation available if a certain someone would dump his roms.  :)

I see on xelnia's list that all of the ROMs are MAME, but I personally consider the very best Donkey Kong clone to be an old DOS game called: "CHAMP Kong." It has a very good replication of all the original DK levels, but also has 5 new "CHAMP mode" levels which include variations of all 4 original levels as well as a bonus level.

Here's a link to a webpage about the game . . .http://web.archive.org/web/19970102193344/http://www.champgames.com/kong.htm (http://web.archive.org/web/19970102193344/http://www.champgames.com/kong.htm)

And here's a link for online play . . . https://archive.org/details/msdos_CHAMP_Kong_1996 (https://archive.org/details/msdos_CHAMP_Kong_1996)

If you've never heard of this game, I suggest you check it out. It's worth a look.

BTW, the game is available for (free) download and can be installed on Windows. If you have a Mac as I do, it can be installed in 'Boxer' (and it runs great).
