Title: alum-blog-a
Post by: alumbrada on July 16, 2013, 11:16:50 pm
After lurking as a guest and watching all of you guys play for a few weeks, I started playing DK (MAME) on June 15 of this year. I'm trying to play 2-3 sessions per week. A session for me is 2 hours max before I get burned out, hopeless, disillusioned, etc.

So I've been playing for a month now, and today got a new high score of 72,900 - dying on level 4-3. I really wanted to get to try the level 4 springs, but it was not meant to be... today at least.

My short term goal is to be on Corey's high score list by the KO3. However, with the current minimum of 200K for the list, and the huge volume of score submissions in the lower point range, I worry that as soon as I start scoring 200K the minimum will be upped to 300K. :P

My long term goal is to give Jeremy a run for his money!  ;D

Another goal is to find a DK cab here on the island of Oahu! Purchasing one would be highly unlikely for a variety of reasons, but finding one to play in a public arcade would be fine. Jeremy and I have chased a few leads, and it doesn't look good.

You're more patient than I am.  After 30 minutes of restarts, my enthusiasm is zapped and I shut it down.

When I first watched your stream, you were hoping to reach Level 03 (passing 5 boards).  With today's new high score, you have more than doubled that, getting past the first 11 stages.  I would view that as an encouraging sign.

Indeed, that's what Xelniaphobia is all about!   :)

Well my fear in my first post came true, the minimum for the HSL was upped to 300K. This discouraged me, and I hadn't really played since the WCQ #2.

This morning, however, my jimmies were rustled when Jeremy told me he had reached a new World Record high score on Brazilian Kong of 102,200. Compare that to my DK score of 89,100.

This is unacceptable! He cannot have a higher score on a sht bootleg than I have on real DK. (well, MAME :P) The chase is on!

With renewed energy I am now going to play often, until I get 102,300. Then, onward to pursue 300K until November.

Relentless determination!

Coincidentally, I started this blog exactly 2 years ago. Since then I have made absolutely no progress with Donkey Kong! I have, however, made a lot of friends  BibleThump

The reason for this post is the IGBY2 inp.

Today I beat a level 4 springs for the first time.

I am practicing on 6+1 settings until I can regularly get to 250k. In this game, I also reached level 5 for the first time. I took my 4th man to 5-3 with a score of 114,100. I burned through the extra 3 "training wheels" lives quickly - the game ended when my 7th man died on 5-4 with 123,900 points.

Things are about to get big big big in the Young house!

That's great to hear.   Glad you are progressing in the game.
