Friday and Saturday will be traditional high score contest to determine the brackets for Sunday which will be DOUBLE elimination head to head matches.

I've confirmed that Wes, Hank and Mark will not be playing, so the following players are officially invited to participate:

 Ross Benziger (Confirmed)
 Jeff Wolfe (Confirmed)
 Dan Desjardins (Confirmed)
 Ethan Daniels (Confirmed)
 Jonathan McCourt (Confirmed)

If you are on this list and aren't yet confirmed, please post here or contact me via PM as soon as possible. If a player is not attending, the next player on the HSL will be added.

Just a thought, but if another person declines, you might as well just say the top 12 scores will get a dedicated machine so you won't be redundant.

Hey Jeff, and the rest of the DK community.
Thekongoff.com is still a work in progress, as I was asking for player updates Jeff informed me that only 5 top 12 players have officially signed up. (Was Sean from Florida one of the 5?)  ( I really do not want to go live with the site until the player profiles are exciting and a plenty.) I saw that Estel Goffinett just put up a million plus game. Give me a call when you can Jeff, Feeling a tad bummed that the website release was being delayed by contestant enthusiasm, I feel it's time to  toss out this idea. If the usual players do not confirm with say a few weeks, We should offer up their spots to players such as Andrew Barrow, Estel Goffinett, Ken House and other extremely active Donkey Kong Players. The Australian Kong off at The Netherworld arcade allowed anyone to participate. It made it very interesting. If our champions Hank Chien, Dean Saglio, Vincent Lemay Jeff Wilms, Steve Wiltshire Mark Keil and all the other regulars cannot commit by a fair cut off date lets throw a monkey wrench in and give the event to the players who most appreciate it. Just an idea. If your name was not mentioned do not feel slighted. this post was fueled by emotion and straight off the top of my head. Opinions? Jeff, please give me a call after this post settles in a bit. Thanks guys

Or have a couple cabs open for open players. $20 per quarter drop to fund the prize pool and event.

Then people like me who have big egos with nothing to back it up yet can throw money down and compete.

I like this idea as well.  I'd be willing to throw down $20 to get my score up there with the greats.  Even if it's just 200k. :)

If by a certain date we don't have 10, dedicated machines could be turned into wildcards if need be, otherwise the current method seems to be working OK.

Once a few more confirm/pull-out we'll be nearer to the 8-10 needed.

Edit: I certainly don’t think I should have a dedicated cabinet and would be happy if I just watched and hung out.

Hey, after talking to Jeff he made it sound like I may have hurt some feelings with my previous post. I have been busting my ass trying to make this Kong Off 6 as good as the last few. I am having a terrible few months and sometimes my posts dont translate well. I was unaware Jeff had the contestant list under control.
I am sorry if I came across like a dick. I just want the website to launch and right now the player list /bios is our bottleneck. Please help Jeff get this list locked in asap. Thanks for understanding.

Hey Richie, it's great to hear from you!

I know that others would agree but I for one am extremely grateful for everything that you've contributed to this community over the years.  Your events have all been very memorable experiences for me that I'm glad that I was lucky enough to participate in.

As for this upcoming event, up until recently I would have thought that I would definitely have to pass on it, but as luck would have it some recent events have improved my situation and I am now at least 50/50 and have started looking into the necessary flights and travel details.  If you and Jeff want to post a firm deadline for commitment just let us know or if you just want everyone to hurry up that's cool too and totally understandable in preparation for the event.  I will try to get things figured out for myself soon one way or the other.

I have one of the biggest NYC digital media companies working on spreading the word OUTSIDE of our local community. I would love to bring a whole new breed of competitors to the fold. It is very disconcerting hearing over and over again how the Kong Off should be retired and we should focus on a new game. Imagine a whole new wave of players coming in to jump start the Renaissance., This event has literally no $ behind it. Donations are extremely welcomed richie@richieknucklez.com Putting an epic event together {having always going out of pocket} has left me in an extreme stress situation. I'm sorry if I am not coming across as happy as I used to be. ANYBODY feel free to contact me by text at 908.797.7901. I need help , $ and psychological evaluation. lol

If each person brings 1 or 2 kong-related items we could hold a raffle with the proceeds going towards the running of the event/recouping some of the costs incurred by Richie.

$20 per quarter drop????? Are you guys insane? A 3 day pass to get in to the Arcade Expo is already $120, which includes "freeplay on all 1,100 machines". Are the wildcard machines not included in this?

I could see maybe $20, max, to get on the rotation list for the wildcard machines.

I didn't know there were wildcard machines? And how can it possibly be free play on 1100 machines when some are reserved? I'm just confused. How would a rotation list work? Even a bad game can take like an hour...

FWIW I sent Richie a small amount of money, there's no reason he should be going out of pocket himself for putting on an event for all of us.

If we all chip in a little amount it should go a long way to resolving that. Obviously everyone's situation is different but I'm sure he'd be appreciative of any amount

But after being punished last year for being ranked 9th in the world, knuckelz' helter-skelter, bush-league run operation can get stuffed.

I reckon the social aspect of the event will make for an entertaining time, though—which is probably the main reason people go anyway.

Play well, my friends. :)

Congratulations to all players who have confirmed for the event as the top seeds who will have dedicated machines for competition!  It looks like there will be ten players (including Billy and Steve) who are million point players and the other two players are not far behind so this will certainly be a high quality exciting and competitive competition for sure!  It's incredible that our community now has enough depth that such a strong group can be assembled despite many players being unable to attend.  Personally I think it's great that it has worked out in such a way that Eric Tessler has earned a dedicated machine for this event since he has been a huge contributor to the longevity of this hobby and community.

Once again I want to thank Richie for the invitation and JC for giving me some flexibility to try to plan for this trip.  Unfortunately I was just not able to make it happen this time and will be unlikely to attend.  But it looks like it's going to be a great event.  There will certainly be favorites and underdogs but with the current match style format for the event finals no results are guaranteed and anything can happen on competition day!  So it will be great fun to watch how things unfold from home if such an option to watch is made available.

If for some reason something changes for me at the last minute and I am able to attend after all, I'm happy to try to play my way in as a wild card if that option exists for this event and/or just try to provide technical help or commentary for the event.  It's unlikely at this point but you never know.

As always, I have the usual questions about event setup -- Is there a website which provides precise details about the event?  Will regular updates about the event be posted somewhere?  (This forum perhaps?)  Will viewers have access to a live electronic scoreboard?  (Link?)  Will event and/or gameplay live streaming be provided?  (Links?)

Thanks again to all of the folks who have been working so hard to organize, prepare, setup, run and breakdown the event.  Here's hoping that even more live and online events will follow!

If there is internet there will be streaming. JC and I will see to that. I have at least 5 or 6 laptops and will get the cameras. Similar setup as last year. There will also be a scoreboard provided. I'll start working on the finer things for this ASAP.

Hope to see you make it Dean!

There is no sign up but will be a registration. Any wildcard folks looking to compete and want me to add them to the kongoff.net site just respond to me with the questions or bio. Richie is swamped right now moving his arcade but I believe it's looking like $20 to play in the WC division. Maybe $20 per day but certainly not per quarter :)

What time should we arrive for day 1? The expo opens at 2:30, but the kong off schedule says 12:00. Are they letting kong off people in early, or should we just show up at 2:30?

I fixed the hours on the kongoff.net site I setup. I was told by AE4 that the doors dont open until 2:30pm on Friday and I've heard nothing else about showing up earlier. If that changes JC or I will post here and blast on facebook and I'll update https://kongoff.net

UPDATE: Havent had a chance to talk to Mr Weeks as he was not onsite when i got here. People will be working/setting up so its likely you can get in a little early (like 2pm) but its probably safe to wait until 2:30pm. Entry into the event is NOT covered at this point unless AE4 has setup something specific which I'll ask when I see him. Me and JC plan on stopping in early to finish setup (around 10am or so). Going back to zzz for a quick 45 :)
