Title: Wes Copeland scores 1,190,000!!!

A truly massive score, and on the arcade platform in a tournament to boot. Dean Saglio has enjoyed over 6 years in the top spot....are his days numbered?

Congratulations Wes!  Amazing timing to get it done when there was a nice bounty up for grabs.  Very well deserved.  Loses a big chunk of his tournament time to a machine failure, furiously repairs it back to working order and STILL makes it happen before the deadline!  Good stuff.

Great write up Chris!  And before the previous article was even fully updated!  ("More soon!"  hehe.)  I am a big fan of that blog site, it's nice to see it still rolling.

This is a huge accomplishment. It's hard for people who don't play DK to understand what it takes to get a score like that.. Someone can't just jump right in and take down a score like this, it take hard dedication towards the game to keep that level of play up for the entire game. Big Congrats.

I love the fact the score is such a nice round number.  So when people say Wes got 1.19 million it straight up what he got.  Congrats Wes on the great World Record, and making this the easiest world record score to remember! 


P.S.  By the way the record score has four 0's, and when Wes flipped the score he had four 9's.  Does this mean anything?  Not really, but cool to a numbers nerd like me. 8)

This is the first time Wes got to wake up as The King of Kong!  Kongrats Wes!  Enjoy it ... luv it ... let it soak in.  Then the battle for arcade 1.2 begins.  To  be the first to 1.2 on an arcade machine is the next logical step.

Hi everyone,

I've been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support in my Twitch channel, social media, and the classic gaming community.

When I scored the 1,122,000 on Christmas Day and it felt akin to running boards, that's when I knew if I could muster enough concentrated effort this week I'd have a shot.

Two days after that score I reached 950k on 1.18m pace. Again two days after that I reached 990k on 1.19m pace. Then the monitor in my machine failed and I thought I was finished, but a few very kind people in the community helped me muster up the courage to repair the CRT. Their help and guidance put me back in the ring.

After I broke the record, I couldn't handle the adrenaline and pressure, so I took a sleeping pill and dozed off. I woke up this morning to a surprise voicemail from Billy Mitchell:

While I said last night I thought I was finished, I've decided to continue pursuing 1.2m. I don't know how long it will take, but the journey will be an exciting one.
