Is this the Waginator?  I forget if you've kill screened DK already or is your high score more like 500k or so?

With your generally awesome CAG skills, if you already have a kill screen on this game and you play one serious game every day I predict you'll hit a million in less than 6 weeks.  Maybe even much faster.  Keep us posted!

Yeah I ks'd it last month (ironically on your Kong Off 1 machine, which was borrowed from me for KO1), haven't played a game since as I threw a DK Jr PCB in it for BOTA2 practice.  I've never played with the intent of getting 1m before but I have trolled enough streams to have a general idea.  I plan on playing every game through to the end in order to keep the stats normalized to some capacity in terms of how many games played, scores, etc.  Should be a fun exercise.

Good luck, Steve, and thank you for weaving a couple of Grateful Dead references into this blog's subject line:
You mentioned that the journey begins in April.  I'm guessing that next month will be largely devoted to BOTA-2 and/or March Madness.  Am I even close?

Good luck, Steve, and thank you for weaving a couple of Grateful Dead references into this blog's subject line:
  • "What a long, strange trip it's been"  (Truckin')
  • "Steal your face right off your head"  (He's Gone)
You mentioned that the journey begins in April.  I'm guessing that next month will be largely devoted to BOTA-2 and/or March Madness.  Am I even close?

Yes sir.  BOTA2 the weekend of the 9th, Barcade Brooklyn Williams tourney the weekend of the 16th.  Figured then I'd just round up to April at that point.

Let my inspiration flow......

Once April rolls around, perhaps you'll be using this as your mantra:

"My time coming, any day..."

Ha.  When Corky came over to the East Coast for the Phish shows last Dec and we all met up at Barcade, that song was playing during his Centipede game.  I thought it was a good sign for him.

I guess I better get my KS in before April so I can make the push for the 1m. Should have had it in the wildcard rematch 2 tournament but made a few mistakes and died just over 700k. I might start getting more aggressive on hitting kill screen then going for the 1m but it seems like 1.1m is the new 1m. Lol.

Come along...won't you?

The journey begins in a matter of days!  Does this kick off on 04/01, or do you have another start date planned?

I've been considering a similar, but less ambitious DK pursuit, which I briefly describe here:

https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=178.msg2543#msg2543 (https://donkeykongforum.net/index.php?topic=178.msg2543#msg2543)

Just wondering, will you be streaming any of your games?  If so, I'll definitely be there.

Also, I imagine you've invited the governor to stop by for the ceremonial first coin drop.  Will he be there, or is he already committed to something silly and inconsequential, like MLB Opening Day?

Good luck!  The million (aka "The Big M") is yours for the taking.

Thanks man, I don't think I'll stream unless I get my justin.tv app on my phone figured out as to why it is not starting (even tried re-installing), might be time for a new phone.

I'll play whenever I have time but I'll try to definitely start around April 1st or so but the Cards opening day will eat into some time (and a lot of it in the future).

I'm going to do my best to get my first game in tonight.  Work has been getting in the way ;D

I'm down to gaming on Friday nights only at this point but hopefully I'll get back into it more soon.

I'm going to do my best to get my first game in tonight.

I may do the same, although I've already played twice this morning between 5:45 and 6:30 AM.  I forced myself, for the moment, to adhere to the "no restarts" rule.  Two full games in less than an hour should give you some idea of how spectacularly the session turned out.  I would post the final scores, but I prefer to avoid humor of the unintentional variety.

I'll create a separate thread for any future updates, so as to not disrupt your journey.

EDIT:  Changed "spectacular" to "spectacularly", once I realized I was using it as an adverb.  If I can't killscreen this game, I should at least attempt to practice reasonably good grammar.  ::)

Ha, my first game ever trying to point press is updated above.  Maybe I'm trying to do too much before full barrel steering ability is granted, but I think of it as a practice run of sorts since I've never tried half the stuff I'm trying now, still counts though as per my own rules even though I died once early on 1-1 and on a pie factory so not much points from deaths, still no restarting damn it.   We'll "press" on like Lee Nails.  Cards game tonight though so only 1 game.

2nd game, 2 elevator deaths and a wild barrel later....yeah.

I find myself thinking about the upcoming barrel screens too much and then dying on non-barrel boards because I'm not thinking.  I gotta stop that.  Progress though, albeit slow.

So, 2 games in 2 weeks.  I've been slacking.  I've been working on a different game lately that is taking my gaming time.  I will hopefully get a game of DK in tonight though.  Thanks for listening.

2 games in a month = epic fail in time management.  Real life getting in the way of playing.  If I do find myself with some time, I'm usually fixing (or in some cases exacerbating the problem) my games lately.  In the words of my Ukranian office mate, "What you can do?".  I'll hopefully play some soon.  I'll need to if Ken gets the BOTA vs MAME challenge going soon instead of playing Robotron.

Not sure how many games I'll get in before Funspot since work has been kray kray...however, I'll play some at FS, (assuming Hank, Vincent and Robbie let me on the machine)   ;)

I'll also ask one of them to "peer review" one of my games for DK Forum glory.

I currently plan to be there on Friday (05/31) and/or Saturday (06/01).  I hope to play a little, but the emphasis of my visit will be on socializing and just hanging out.  I'll happily give up my turn on DK, rather than attempt to reacquaint myself with the reversed arcade controls.  Plus, it will give me the opportunity to do some damage on the Out Run cabinet.

I'm familiar with Martin, although we've never met.  My major 2012 gaming project was chasing his outrageous 53M Out Run score on MAME (the TG record).  There was no other active competition on that title, but I thought it was a worthwhile pursuit.  I finally surpassed his score back in October, and have done it twice more since then.  I'm just waiting for things to settle down at TG before I submit.  From one of his posts, I learned that he achieved his score after 20-25 hours of play.  By contrast, my best run required an investment of more than 6 months.  Kinda sheds some light on the difference in natural talent, doesn't it?

It would be fun to go head-to-head on the Out Run cabinet, or to spend a few moments just discussing the game.  However, I realize that he will be busy competing on a wide variety of other games.

I'm sure he'd be happy to, he's a great guy and yeah he picks stuff up rather quickly.  Beating his 53m is stellar, awesome job!  Also, make sure you find me at some point for some beers downstairs.

Not too long, I left all the dates unfilled, etc.
Some are of out of date by now but I cannot remember what the new score was and I didn't take any photo (Scramble, Mario Bros, Robotron, etc), so I left them alone.

I haven't played DK since my last post about DK in this blog.  Kappa.  I should get back to it.  Lately I've been trying to crack 200k on Galaxian and 200k on Frogger (3+1 settings) when I actually get out to the local arcade and with work being heavy lately, that's about 2x a month.  I'm at about 160-170k on both.

I've also been trying to complete Space Harrier on 1 credit.  I'm a little more than halfway through.  I haven't played much else lately, sorry for posting this.

Came very close to my 200k goal on Galaxian today.  Got 191k at the arcade.  Ugh.   FailFish

About 30k past my previous best at least.  I had 2 ships I lost on back to back boards.

Do you find the game continues to increase in difficulty or do you think it maxes out fairly early on?

Seems about the same but someone like Aart would be a much better resource.  I was cruising then ran into trouble so it's likely a case where you get lulled into a false sense of security.  If I played "the right way" I could probably do much better than I do...but fuck that YOLO Galaxian all day.   Kreygasm

I've been a bit energized  <pacman> since BOTA so I figured I'd put a couple of goals for myself and see if I get time with my work schedule and then baseball season starting to actually get into attempting them, then again, much like this blog I may get lazy and leave them there unattained and/or unattempted.  Kappa

Haven't updated this in awhile.  I've been playing mostly IGBY games lately and watching a lot of baseball  <popcorn>

I had never played Road Fighter or Bank Panic before and I kinda dug those 2 as far as new games.  I got new PBs on Kung Fu Master and Splatterhouse  <stirpot>  and was able to bang out a decent EA game on my 2nd attempt that hopefully stands but Innuendo appears to be quite good on it.

I plan to play some more Bank Panic and get back into Bomb Jack again as I used to be able to play it a bit but lately I can't get a good start going and keep restarting  Kappa

I might make a few more Splatterhouse attempts but I'm not sure I want to go down that road.    BibleThump

I'll be up at Grinker's arcade in Idaho in Oct for a tourney and get together there and so I'll be playing whatever they have in the tourney as well as some other stuff I assume.

But mostly I'll be counting the days that Yadi and Wacha come off the DL for the Cards  BibleThump

EDIT:  I should also start making 1m DK attempts before my cab is gone.

Haven't played much of anything since IGBY ended.  I believe I'm playing EA Friday night on the SiotS show/TG show with Glen as he graciously helped me with setting up the Skype/cam stuff last night.   Kreygasm

I'll be playing on my cab and trying for 150k+ hopefully but like DK, the game is extremely random <Mruczek> and unforgiving  <Tim> at times so we'll see how it goes.

I haven't played much of anything lately but I need to keep this Blog patch in the system....   Kappa

I do have a b-day coming up and my plan for that is to eat Pot stickers, drunken man noodles and then go to the arcade and finally break 200k on Galaxian.  I've had like 3 games between 190-200k and it's sort of personal with that machine now (there's a dedicated one local to me).  Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but something that's been annoying me.  I play it incorrectly as I don't count enemies to lessen the swarm at all, I just YOLO it which I find to be the most fun, but is likely why I haven't managed much higher scores.  Swarms are really fun though.   Kreygasm

To quote my buddy Ross..."LET'S GO!"

Managed it a week earlier than planned and got a 207k.  I think my accuracy is decent but I need to cut down on stupid mistakes.  I'll keep playing since I love the game.  Next stop 300k.   <Sanders>

Went to Funspot for a bit this past week for  <Mruczek> 's weekend of fun-ness.  Fellow DKFers Tim, Brendan, Martin, Donald and MSP were in attendance as well as other luminaries such as  <Kuh> .    Kappa

I was able to play a dedicated Bank Panic for the first time and managed to break 1m before all the patrons at the bank started to look the same.  I improved my Dig Dug speed to 1m a bit over last year by about 5 rounds which pleases me and I also had a PB on 5 man only Millipede with a 197k.  Also came close to beating the Funspot high score on Zarzon but missed it by 1k.   I attempted to setup a team play Wizard of Wor tourney but the game was spazzing out on us.  Brendan  BibleThump 'd because he was off to a great start on it I reckon.

Brendan and Mike set a new WR on doubles 1943 and  <Mruczek> had a 700k+ game of Pandora's.  My favorite part of the weekend was finding a new breakfast place called Kitchen Cravings which was incredible.  Also, Tim introduced me to a game called Galaga '88 which I took a liking to on Sunday.  My wife was able to finally break 200k on a Vs. Dr Mario with a 260k which was enjoyed by all.

I didn't get around to playing any DK, a couple of times I felt like playing it, there was a crowd at the machine surprisingly.  All in all had a great time hanging with my mates, drinking and playing games, lit.

I haven't updated this in awhile and I don't want to lose one of the toughest badges on DKF to get  Kappa

I took a bit of a break from playing and then Yolympics happened and since February is awful, it made sense to stay inside and play games.   Had a lot of fun learning some new games and helping team Starfox finish ahead of the Weeaboos.

Haven't played too much of anything else since and have spent some of my gaming time writing some DKF/CAG related rhymes that should hopefully be entertaining at some point.

Also started enjoying the Tut a bit at Richie's and have fired it up in MAME.  Since I can't pass Board 4 yet, it's a fun, quick game, unlike the grind of DK which I just haven't been motivated to play although I set a new keyboard PB during Yolympics so I started to get used to the lack of arcade controls at least.

With baseball season upcoming, my playing will be non-existent (save for the replacement Funspot tourney in May/June) but I still plan to hang out and check in with my cobbas.  I'm also planning to rock Richie's mini "Like A Boss" tourney at the Allentown, PA show.  Lit.   <YSG>

Gotta keep the blog patch intact....

Won the Allentown, PA tourney completing the first loop of Gorf, Zaxxon and Phoenix in about 4 and a half minutes.  There's plenty of room for improvement as I've had Gorf games where I've destroyed the flagship in 1 shot and didn't play Phoenix like a fkstick as I did in this game but was still pleased with the time.   Twas a fun exercise and I hope RK continues to do these time trials.

I head off to Funspot for the John's Arcade Outsiders Brofest Event in a few weeks.  Looking forward to the break as work has been really busy and between that and baseball season I haven't had much time to play anything at all.  Hopefully some fun games in the tourney.

I will get back to DK at some point this year.  I get a week off in July when I typically play a ton of games at my wife's family's beach house so I'll likely pick it up again at that point, unless a Wolf Tourney occurs.   <stirpot>

Sweet, I thought it might be.  I remember I used that week away to grind IGBY on vacation.  Looks like I'll be doing that again.  Kreygasm

Back from the fest of bros.....random thoughts:

12 of the 15 games I had spent some time with.  The only 3 games I had never played before were Solar Fox, Domino Man and Mouse Trap.

Mouse Trap and Solar Fox I found to be on the easier side, Domino Man was very frustrating and had a sharper learning curve.

Gaplus, The Glob, Jump Bug, Pandora's Palace, Pole Position, Rally-X, Space Dungeon, Strategy X and Wacko were all in previous FS tourneys that I had played in.

Robotron TGTS and DK3 Hardest setting 3 lives only were fast games and titles I had a lot of familiarity with so things stacked up well for me there as well.

Speed Buggy I had played with McAllister a bit because one year we suspected that was a possible title to include in a future tourney.  I can finish the race but not with as many points as Dave Nelson or  <Kuh>

Speaking of  <Kuh> he played only Speed Buggy and Rally-X all weekend so it was satisfying to beat his Rally-X score right before dinner on Saturday.  I think he had left for good by then unfortunately.  Dave Nelson tried to beat his Speed Buggy score most of Saturday night but came up a few thousand short in our  <Kuh> shutout bid.

Solar Fox went down on Saturday morning so they removed it from the tourney which was a bummer since I had a large lead on it but I understand the decision.

Having familiarity with nearly every title helped tremendously since we only had a total of 16 hours of tournament time for this event (which doesn't include the dinner breaks I took, etc).  I still felt it was a good amount of time for a tourney so you didn't feel burnt out.

Domino Man should probably be a in Crap Tourney at some point, it's pretty horrible.  I'm shocked they used it instead of something like Mad Planets that is still semi-rare but pretty much everyone enjoys.

I didn't play a whole lot of games outside of the main tourney, Space harrier, Front Line, Spectar, Zarzon and I think that's about it on Saturday night.

Was good to see a lot of FS regulars that I didn't think were coming, show up to this.  Pretty much the entire New England gaming crew were there as well as Jeff Reuhs and a few other tourney regulars.

John and his cohorts did a tremendous job hosting this event.  For a first pass it went as well as it possibly could.  Lots and lots of prizes, giveaways and various side events gave good balance to the event as opposed to just being all about competition.

With the tourney being entirely free, they relied on raffle sales, t-shirt sales and other purchases to fund the prize pool and it ended up not being far off at all from what the Funspot tourney normally hands out as prizes which is extremely impressive.  Plus they donated 1/3 of the prize pool to the family of Scott Gaulin, a New England collector and FS regular who passed away recently.

I'm optimistic this becomes a yearly event.

As far as scores go the only one I got that I felt was noteworthy was a PB on Rally-X of 120,160 which topped the FS high score from like 15 years ago.  It felt good to finally put together a good run on that game in a live setting after grinding through it in many tourneys.   <Kuh> loves it I reckon

Cheers.

To keep my badge.....

Ummm, let's see.

I'm planning to update Front Page Sports Baseball 98 for the PC with 2016 rosters.  It's a big task and will take some time but will be enjoyable for me to complete and then play with modern players.  I plan to start after the MLB season ends and data is complete for me to evaluate, run through my own formulas and then load into the game.

As far as arcade games are concerned, I plan to try and beat the Arkanoid arcade WR for TGTS at some point but since I don't own a cabinet it will have to be done at the local and very busy arcade.  Not sure how up to it I'll feel to lug my camera there late at night when there are less customers and then point press a game I just like to play through but I'll give it a few real shots over the winter I think.

Also probably time to actually get my ass in gear for the Trifuckta badge.  I can make those attempts from home at least.

Love and trackball pinches

Interesting.  I thought some of the scores were just culled from sources like MARP, etc.

Attended the always fun, annual November  <Mruczek> Funspot week the last few days.

Some general highlights:

- All the games on the floor were working really, really well, very impressed

- The pub added my favorite beer, Ommegang Hennepin  Kreygasm

- I broke my phone and needed a new one so that I could get home eventually via Google maps.  The Laconia Verizon store was very nice and hooked me up.

- I picked up 2 bottles of Moxie soda to bring home, since it's mostly regional to New England.  If you've never had Moxie, I'd describe it as a cross between Dr. Pepper and black licorice in soda form.  Sounds weird/bad but it's super.

- Picked up some homemade chocolates to bring home.  My wife is a fan of chocolate covered pretzels so I got a few of those and got myself some chocolate covered oreos.   <YSG>

-  Watched  <Mruczek> put up a large Pandora's score (like 1.5m or so) and leave a bunch of men in reserve to go eat dinner

-  It was great to finally have another Aurcade ref besides myself there this year (Graham Ogilvie) so that I could also submit should I feel so inclined

-  Seeing all the cobbas I see once or 2x a year is always the best.

Games I played:

- I managed a new WR on Turbo (TGTS Hard) breaking Jamie Cahill's old record done at Richie's back in the golden era of NJ vintage e-Sports (2008).   Didn't film it so it is Aurcade only for now, but since there is a cab local to me, I'll likely do it there as well at some point.  Took a lot of tokens and nearly a full day of playing (with scattered breaks).  Props to  <Kuh> for making me work as he had the house high which was slightly lower than Jaime's score.  The setting is pretty brutal, hard difficulty, 1 life per loop, no extras, so you can only have at most 1 extra life at any point in the game and cannot carry them through to the next stage regardless.

- Jay Cameron talked me into playing some games of 1943 with him and I managed a new PB (I think, I forget what I got in Iglympics) of 2.3m

- I started a game of Commando pretty late on Saturday night because I was bored wandering around and ended up playing until close, killing off my game at 800k with no leeching and about 10-12 men in reserve.  I broke the grenade button about halfway through somehow and lost a few lives trying to use the other grenade button cross handed (even though that one didn't work either).  If I find a cab local to me I'll probably submit something to TG, maybe the 2m second place score as #1 is 10m which seems like torture (and highly difficult playing straight up).

-  I filmed a game of Rally-X on the default settings track I created in TG to put up an inaugural score for that track.  I forget what I got and haven't watched the playback yet as I mostly slept through all of yesterday.  Something over 100k.

Notable scores I verified for other people that now reside in Aurcade:

Jay Cameron - 1943 - 2.2m

Brendan O'Dowd - 1943 - 2.845m

Graham Ogilvie - Pole Position - 66,060

Mike Sao Pedro - Armored Car - 178,980

Dave Nelson - Speed Buggy - 108,510

Also made it home in record time on Sunday, under 5.5 hours.   NWR, lit, EngPls, Ffft, wda, make   <Allen>
