Oops, I have your date wrong Phil. I know it was February, do you know the date?
You over-wrote that .inp with your 1,050 game.
My first 1M was at home and not TG verified (TG recording rules at the time didn't allow recorded 1M scores).
Players who have NOT yet improved on their initial 1M score: Kessler, Goewert, Falls, Boyd, Wiltshire, Gunnarsson, Groesbeck. (7 out of 18)
It's really too bad that Tim Sczerby kept his first million to himself.
Trivia question (I'm actually not sure of the answer):
Who had the first live 1M point game?
Good question! Steve Wiebe didn't even get 1m live in KoK (got lik 985k?). Hasn't Scott Kessler gotten 1m in like 2009 or something like that at Funspot?
Don't tell me Hank you're the one that got 1m+ live the first at Funspot with your 1.09m?
Easy one: first live 1.1M?
Didn't Steve Wiebe get 1M live on G3 about 4 years ago? I think Billy Mitchell at some real estate brokers convention did it the first time live in front of people though.
This was definitely a special moment in my DK career.
Nice! thanks for sharing that :)
Awesome to see your gameplay this early. Do you think you'll ever make your WR recording public?
Before KO2, Steve never got a live million. He got close on G4, but never rolled it over.
That's what was so cool about the back-to-back on KO2 Day 2. Not only did he do it, he did it twice!

I'm pretty confident that this is actually incorrect. Steve's million point games at the KO2 were not the first ones that he ever did live.
I'm also planning on streaming some attempts in a month or two, so stay tuned.
I'm glad to see some efforts being made to try to preserve some of these histories before they are forgotten.
I'm pretty confident that this is actually incorrect. Steve's million point games at the KO2 were not the first ones that he ever did live. It would take some digging around to find where he had done it previously, but I remember a few years back when I was surfing around trying to look into this sort of thing that there were a few smaller and lesser known places where Steve played in an arcade setting. At least one of these (and it may have happened more than once) he did just barely break a million. I don't remember if I was poking around on YouTube or TG or where I remember seeing this but that's what I remember anyway.
But yeah, Billy's live game in 2007 of 1,050,200 was the first known live million point game (this is the one where he was on pace for around 1,110,000 but killed it off early). I vaguely remember that this game was approved during the "Live Only" rule, although I could be wrong about that -- perhaps that rule went into effect after Billy's game was verified I don't remember.
I'm glad to see some efforts being made to try to preserve some of these histories before they are forgotten.
This is his his million point game we are referencing here, but it is taped and is of course the "wipe my butt" game from KoK, the one that started all the controversary.
Hahaha, good to see that again! Alpiger cracks me up. Hard to believe that was nearly 4 years ago!

Actually the "wipe my butt" game wasn't a 1M game. The KoK editors made it look that way. The "wipe my butt" game was just under 1M. The 1.006M game was definitely a home recording though. As I mentioned earlier, I'm also fairly certain is was on an 8-way (I bought the recording from Alpiger bitd).
It's funny how unclear the history of DK is during the "dark period"... everyone thought everyone else was cheating and nobody was allowed to get 1M unless it was in front of a referee.

Definitely. Something else I'd like to see is compiled is each 1M+ player's score progression over the years. It's great to look at the DKF HSL and the TG scoreboard and see Hank's 1.138 and Dean's 1.167 (and every 1M+), but the march to those scores is just as interesting and important as the scores themselves. That's something I don't want to be lost.
Yeah, if people are interested, I can try to see if I still have all of the inp files saved and try to put together some dates for how my PB progressed. They are all generally seperated by about a year each I think, but my MAME scores bumped up something like this:
762k
1.026M
1.051M
1.073M
1.136M
1.153M
1.167M
So yeah, if people are interested I can probably find the exact scores and dates for these games. I was recently thinking it might be fun to go back and rebroadcast my old 762k game or my 1.026M game on twitch and make fun of how raw my game probably looked back then as compared to today, hehe. I don't think I've looked at those games in years and it might be sort of funny to see.

Also, you have Billy's million a whole year earlier. It was 2005. Steve's million date is right, but Billy's video was shown/verified at Funspot in 2005 when wiebe was there.
2014 was a slow year for inaugural millions, but we weren't even 1 day into 2015 before we had our first for the year! Jason Wade is #25.
Will 2015 beat 2014? It would be bizarre if it didn't.
By year:
1981-2003: 0
2004: 2
2005: 0
2006: 0
2007 (King of Kong released): 0
2008: 2

2010: 1
2011: 2
2012: 4
2013: 9
2014: 2
2015: 3
Equal second with 2012 and only a third of the way through the year. Could this be another 2013? Wait and seafighter?

Hey Andrew,
Perhaps you and I should be doing more to push that number along. ;)

Yeah mates, stop fkin around :D
I love it. Go, sirs.
Oops, as the 8th DKO begins, I realized that I never updated this thread with the most recent million. :P
It wasn't his long-sought 1.1, but Dan Desjardins finally got the rollover, won a tournament with it, AND earned a Kong Off 4 spot! That's a lot of business taken care of in a single game and has got to feel pretty sweet.
As anybody who has watched him stream knows, Dan has been grinding hard for years, so this was well deserved, and a long time coming. Congrats!

Sucks that he killed the game off but that is still really cool. Can someone try to find out why he did it? The only reason I can think of is if he thought that was the maximum..?

Wes and I met this guy during Wes' trip to Japan earlier this year. It turns out he stopped intentionally at 999,900 so the score would show all those 9s.

Billy had 1,014 a full in 2003?...........I call Bullshit because if that was the case it would have been headline news at the time, plastered all over the internet and to the point it would have made my local news like the perfect PacMan. I heard NOTHING of this 1,014 game in 2003!
If Billy really did score that high in 03 it would've most assuredly been registered on the TG score Board above my 879,200 that would be 2nd place.
Not like Billy to sit on such an achievement and keep it secret for a years.
Just more crap to try and alter the true timeline and confuse people as to who did what and when. I thought Dk forum banned Billy? If they allow that score, I will never submit again.
Happy to add my man Scott Cunningham to the list. :) Interesting score, as it's a tie for the Wiebe peebee!
People are starting to ask more questions about the "first million", so here's the best I can gather. Everything is listed as claimed by the various parties, even though there are clearly issues with Billy's scores. So, I leave it to the reader to determine for themselves the first true million.I wish there was public footage of Steve's 1.064
