Side note on 19xx, since I played it a bit for a previous tournament (though I'm not great at it):
If you don't get S rank on the first boss (kill it in 10 seconds or less if I recall), just restart. The multiplier that S rank gives you is one of the major sources of points in the game. You can get around a million pretty easily just by learning the first two levels or so and freestyling most of it. TY. I think my best is 810k on arcade. It might be my imagination but I feel like the parent set in MAME plays a bit tougher than arcade, more heatseekers but I don't have as big a sample size in MAME.

I was just about getting to the point of offering a bounty on this game for the first person to hit 1 mil (that hasn't previously done so - so that rules out myself, Rob Macauley & George Strain <- sry did I get your name right?). And also offer a bounty for the first person to score over 2 mil just to keep the other two guys in play :) I'd really love some serious hardcore CAGers to get into this game and push the scores higher.

About a 3 hr game. The stream quality is awful, so you probably won't pick too much up apart from the fact that you'll notice I use the islands, even the small ones, a hell of a lot - for a really big score you need to learn to use them, learn what speed you need to be going, it's not hard once you know the patterns (there are only 8 patterns, 1-3 unique, and 4 thru 8 just repeat forever).
Hoping to find some more people with a love for this game, once the IGBY is over I'll be happy to share more tips on the game for anyone that is interested in going for really big scores, maybe even knock off my 5.869 million (TG unverified for obvious reasons) score. I find it's a very hard game to explain how to play though, well in writing anyway, if I had the time I'd make an instruction YouTube video - maybe I'll get around to that one day.
My goal, and it would help if I had people pushing me, would be a 10 mil point game. Most likely a 7 hour effort. This is a game with ZERO breaks. You get around 10 secs max to regroup after each pattern and that's it - 36 lives max, so no time outs for taking a piss etc. I'm sure there are other games that would require 7 hours without a break, but I'm not aware of them :)

The pinball effect that results in a car crash that you directly didn't hit still counts as a crash. Try not to jump a lot and use variable speed to avoid cars IMO. When you jump they tend to get under you more than if you just try to avoid driving into them. My best is around 200-300k so I'm probably not that much help.

If a car dies that you actually had nothing to do with, it doesn't invalidate the 50K no-kill bonus. So for example, if a dump truck drops a rock that kills a car, that doesn't count against you as a kill. However if you run into a car and it causes a chain reaction that results in a car crashing, it does count against you. Note that It's easy to have this happen at the beginning of a stage or after a death where if you are at the bottom of the screen and a car hits you there can be a chain reaction behind that causes a car to crash even if you can't even really see it. So at the start of each life/level, make sure you quickly get some speed and get away from the very bottom to avoid triggering a chain reaction.
The best way to avoid hitting cars is don't drive too fast. Instead drive about the same speed as the other cars and only accelerate over 100mph when you need to jump. If you stay around the same speed of the other cars you can try and keep them all in front of you and don’t let them go off the top of the screen. If one goes off the top of the screen and reappears behind you, try and let it pass you without hitting it and let it rejoin the other cars in front of you. If there is a car that is moving really slowly, you may need to pass it.
In general by controlling speeds and not going too fast, it is fairly easy to avoid hitting the other cars. Once you get the hang of it, the only places where it can still be hard is: on the sections where you have to either take the narrow bridge on the far left or jump off islands, and the sections on some of the later levels where you have to jump off a small island between bridges at high speed.
Your goal on every stage should be the 50k bonus. If you get in a situation where you need to commit suicide rather than losing the bonus, you frequently will be better off committing suicide since you get extras every 30K until you roll the score at 1M. This is especially true if you are almost to the end of the level and still have the no-kill bonus for the level. Once you get the basic hang of the game and how to play for the no-kill bonus, and once you generally learn the layout of the levels, getting 1M+ isn’t very hard since you get a ton of extra lives if you are getting 50K bonuses pretty often. If I remember correctly, the layouts of the first 3 levels are unique, then after that you get a cycle of 5 different layouts that keep repeating. To get 1M+ you don’t need to memorize the full levels, but you will need to be familiar with them. In particular 3 of the 5 levels that repeat have a difficult section that requires you to jump off a small island and if you don’t go into it correctly, and jump in the correct space and at the correct speed, you will die on that section every single time (sometimes multiple times). So you really have to learn and remember exactly where that section occurs on those 3 levels. Of course it helps to learn other sections, but in general you can wing it on rest of the sections and still do ok. Once you can score over 1M and stop getting extra men, you’ll need to learn how to play cleaner and safer since you’ll need to average more points per life to score higher.
A couple of other tips:
- If you are going fast enough to jump, remember that you can immediately regain control of your car after a collision by jumping. This can also be useful if you land on a car. If you rejump immediately you can avoid moving to the left or right. This can be very important if you are landing on top of a car on a narrow bridge.
- If you’ve already lost the no-kill bonus and are approaching a jump, you can safely smash the cars that are stopped right at the edge of the jump if you time the jump so you jump just as you touch the cars. At first this seems risky, but it really isn’t once you learn the timing.
- Landing on islands is much harder than landing on the bridges. In general avoid trying to land on the islands unless you have a really good reason to or in one of the places where it is strictly required. You get a few bonus points (I think 1K) for landing on the islands, but it really isn’t worth the risk.
- One other fun trick that isn’t really very useful is that if you’re going fast, when you jump you can scroll off the screen on the left or right and you’ll wrap around to the other side and can land safely there. You can actually use this trick on the early wide parts of the first level to still go fast and avoid bumping into cars since as you go to one side they’ll move to that side and “chase†after you, and you can easily switch sides this way without them immediately starting to move back to the other side.

This is probably the only thing I would disagree with you on, but perhaps using the islands to their near maximum amount falls under advanced playing :-\ I've never got around to doing the stats for my PB game, but for a game I played back in September last year here is some basic stats:
Game Time: 2hr 26min
Patterns 102 (last life lost on 103)
Perfect 50k Patterns 65
Island Jumps 211
Game Score 3,826,076
So of the 3.8 Million, 211,000 came from Island jumps - roughly 2000 pts per stage - or around 5% of my total.
The island jumps can also play an important part in keeping your 50k bonus intact, it is a whole lot safer using the islands once you know what speed you need to be going, rather than driving down the long narrow road beside the water where you will often get dump trucks (not that they are a major worry) or other enemy cars who perfectly position themselves to be under where you are going to land and stuffing up a potential 50k.
Having said that, the first goal for anyone should be to just sacrifice lives at any cost to get the 50k bonuses. As you learn the patterns you won't have to sacrifice as much and eventually 1 million will be a mere formality in this game. Going well beyond 1 million, and I'm talking 3 million plus here takes a different approach because you really can't sacrifice under any circumstances.

Yeah, I'd classify island use as advanced play and wouldn't recommend it for beginners. I agree that at an advanced level of play using the islands can actually be safer and make it less likely to lose the no-kill bonus. I think it's easier to learn the game and get to 1M+ without trying to use the islands though.

Some Bank Panic tips since we're sucking it on that one:
- Read http://www.gamefaqs.com/arcade/584031-bank-panic/faqs/44889 (http://www.gamefaqs.com/arcade/584031-bank-panic/faqs/44889) for a good overall summary of the game and how gameplay works
- Start on level 1. You can score way more points playing through all levels from level 1 than you can from starting on a later level.
- Slow play levels until the timer almost runs out. You can score at least twice as much per level on the early levels by slow playing them than by clearing them quickly.
- At least on the early levels, wait for the bandits to start drawing their guns before shooting them. If you shoot them before they start drawing, then your kill is considered "unfair" and only gets you 100 pts. If you wait for them to draw you can score a lot more, and in perfectly timed kills of the red guys up to 5K for the kill. This also helps with your average "Fair Kill" bonus at the end of the levels.
- The game is patterned, so for practice save states or starting on later levels can be very useful to help you figure out a good approach for a level and also to get used to the faster pace of the later levels.
- If you are scrolling left or right, once you start scrolling and hold left/right down, no doors will open until you stop scrolling.
- If you are playing with a keyboard, map the fire buttons to your dominant hand and the scroll buttons to your other hand since reflex firing is much, much more important than movement.

Without knowing anything other than the final score (968,600) and ending stage (19-4), I tried to estimate a projected KS score by varying a few key parameters:
- Start
- Total points for deaths 1-3
- Typical board averages for conveyors, elevators, and rivets
- Barrel board average (dependent variable, determined by everything else)
The calculations seem to converge on a target of: 1,107,000

That sounds about right. Start was 123k. Lost my last reserve life in the 700k range in a totally unnecessary way, trying to rejump a spaced group of barrels for some reason and got a difficlult combo due to a self-steering barrel. Wish I could have kept that one. But, if your gonna die on an elevator screen, well there you go. I've never finished a game where I died on one. I need all my lives for other stupidity.
