What does it mean to separate from the hammer?
In Crazy Kong you don't have to stay with the hammer in part of the pie factory. You can walk away while the hammer is going.
This saves time.  Since time is worth points, it's a useful tool in Crazy Kong.
Donkey Kong doesn't have this same effect as far as we know
What does it mean to "stay with" the hammer? As far as I understand, the hammer follows Jumpman through the stage as he wields it.
I am sure you would see this as cheating
