My favorite lyrics
« on: May 01, 2014, 07:37:52 am »
As some may know, well maybe just Phil, but I moonlight as a rap lyricist with the help of my friend Craig's (DJ Igneous Rock) beats.  I've reserved this space to post some of my favorite verses I've written over the years.  This is my sub forum, this is my mind.   Kreygasm  Kappa

This is the first public consumption of either the lyrics or the songs.

In the summer that you came
There was something eating everyone
And the sunshine fund was low
We couldn't greet you with a simple hello

Opening verse from "Casual Mail" by Pony Express circa 2001 as evidenced by the dated references I use:

You wish you had Kris Benson's life, throw .500 ball, then go home and bang his wife.
That's the surreal life, only this is real life, so instead of her you got John Silverman's sister.
Hold up, y'all must have come off the ship of fools
Cause you puttin me to sleep like The Cidar House Rules
DJ Igneous Rock, beats sick, deadly like a manticore
Clutch like Hendu, crazy like Donnie Moore
It's the PE baby, been feared, neck beard, no stubble, leave you broke like Trouble with no dice in the bubble.
Pony Express be sweet like old Pez, always in high-res, stretch singles into doubles.
Divide my time between rhyming and climbing over those who think prose like mine can flow free from just any old mind.
Crowds shout "P, how you get so daft?", been in the game so long  I spit for William H. Taft.
I put lead back into gas, eat pheasant over glass, chaotic good cleric with no armor class.
Cause I...Hunt like Helen, sail like Magellan, convicted felon, gettin more ass than Ellen.
All shit that's been done yo I seen it, stuck my dick in Lisa Loeb, but I really didn't mean it.
On the move like Arlo Pear, while you hurt like Steve McNair, got the "C" like Danny Gare, book my own world tours, pay all the cab fare.
In the summer that you came
There was something eating everyone
And the sunshine fund was low
We couldn't greet you with a simple hello

I've always liked the poems of Dylan Thomas. One phrase of his I like is:

"Time held me green and dying
Though I sang in my chains like the sea."
"Thou hast made us for Thyself, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in Thee." -Augustine, Confessions.

2nd verse from "National Nightlight", I was in a Beastie Boys phase for a bit so I sort of modeled this flow in their "call and response" type of rapping.  I think I was tripping at the time though.

Written around 1995 timeframe.  I wrote a lot during college Physics classes I think.  I remember my text book being filled with rhymes, looking back.  Actually, re-reading this, the flywheel reference cracked me up because every Physics example they used on exams seemed to involve a flywheel for some reason so it was probably on my mind.

I got a piece of the Fiords in my backyard,
I got a kid who fails but tries real hard.
I got some diet rite, an award from Cannes,
I got a plate glass ceiling so my face gets tan.

I got my hair cropped short, got a pocket of lint,
I got a forty cent piece from the Franklin Mint.
I got no time to dabble, gotta learn it quick,
I got a gallon of lead paint and a candle wick.

I got a headstrong cousin with a tapioca face,
I got an eraseable pen so I make mistakes.
I got a hands-free headset, got a penchant for death,
I got a Tull import with locomotive breath.

I got a shallow self-view, I got a vehicular life,
I got a bucket for a shower, and a dull boning knife.
I got a palm full of gravel, got no skin on my arms,
I got a car on fire but it's got no alarms.

I got a freezing jungle, got a steaming swamp,
I got mostly circumstance without the pomp.
I got a head for business, I got a face for Law,
I got an Arab strap and a circular saw.

I got a space for eyes, on a real good deal
I got radar love, on a square flywheel.
I got a marathon mind, got a devious smile,
I got a fear of words so my mail's in a pile.
